Twitter announced on Wednesday a new program that would allow academics access to Twitter’s historical data for research purposes. Currently, only a small number of “Certified Product Partners” have access to the Twitter “firehose” — the full stream of all published tweets. A small number of researchers will be allowed access to Twitter data sets through the Data Grants program, via Gnip, a Twitter data reseller partner.
