Galaxy S5 Could Be on Tap as Samsung Plans Feb. 25 "Unpacked 5” Event for Barcelona

The event will take place on the Monday evening of Mobile World Congress.

Samsung could well be looking to give the Galaxy S5 a Mobile World Congress introduction, or at the least, plans to use the Barcelona event for some significant product announcements.

The Korean electronics giant sent out invitations to journalists on Monday for a Feb. 24 “Unpacked 5” event to be held in conjunction with the annual mobile trade show. The invite also bills the event as “Episode 1” of Samsung Unpacked 2014, suggesting at least one more episode to come.

Samsung launches dozens of mobile devices each year, though its flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Note models tend to get the largest stages. The event could also see the debut of some new wearable products given comments made at CES last month by the head of Samsung’s San Francisco design studio.

The company has used the “Unpacked” press events for a variety of product unveilings over the years. The Galaxy S4 was launched in New York last March.

Many of Samsung’s mobile rivals will be at the show, with Nokia having scheduled a press event for earlier in the day on Feb. 24.
