Take-Two Subsidiary Irrational Games to Shut Down

Irrational Games, the Take-Two Interactive subsidiary responsible for the critically acclaimed Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, is shutting down. Co-founder Ken Levine announced the shutdown in an open letter posted on the studio’s homepage. All but 15 of Irrational’s employees (out of an undisclosed total, though LinkedIn pegs the company size at 51-200 people) will be laid off and, Levine wrote, the studio will “return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience.” The new endeavor will still work under Take-Two, focusing on “replayable narrative[s]” that will only be distributed digitally.
