Neal Stephenson, whose books anticipated and influenced the vision of virtual reality, is joining the virtual- and augmented-reality company that is capturing the hearts, minds and wallets of people who have seen it under NDA — Magic Leap. (We last wrote about the company when it raised more than $500 million from investors, including Google.) In a blog post that only he could write, Stephenson said he was recruited to be Magic Leap’s “chief futurist” by mythic sword-bearers arriving at his doorstep; that yes, the demo was “mindblowingly awesome”; and that he hopes to translate the company’s technology into something the general public can use.
