Qualcomm confirmed Wednesday that it plans to cut 600 jobs, with half the cuts coming in California. The company, whose chips dominate the high end of the cellphone market, has faced government inquiries in China and has said that some licensees there are not paying what Qualcomm believes it is owed.
A Qualcomm representative declined to say which areas will be most affected but added that the cuts, first reported by CNET, are not the result of any of the ongoing inquiries into the company’s business practices.
