Square's Checkout App Goes Global With 130 Currencies

In an effort to test global demand for its payments services, Square is updating its free checkout app to support 130 currencies and two new languages — Spanish and French (it already supports English and Japanese). Square’s payments processing service is still only available in the U.S., Canada and Japan, but small business owners in countries ranging from Spain to South Africa can now use the free app to keep track of their sales, manage inventory and send digital receipts — in the language and currency of their choosing. A spokeswoman said the global software rollout could help Square decide in which new countries it will start offering its credit card reader and processing service.
