Spotify Hits 12.5 Million Subscribers

Spotify says it has 12.5 million paying subscribers for its subscription music service, and 50 million users overall. In May, the company said it had 10 million paying subscribers. CEO Daniel Ek disclosed the new numbers in a blog post defending the company against a recurring complaint that it doesn’t distribute enough money to musicians and music owners like Taylor Swift.
