Twitter, which thought about buying SoundCloud but walked away, is partnering with the digital audio service instead. Twitter is introducing a new “Audio Card” format that will let users play some SoundCloud files on mobile devices. Last year, Twitter discussed integrating SoundCloud into its now-defunct Twitter Music app.

Also participating is Apple, which will make select iTunes tracks available via Audio Card. At the moment, that’s a very select group of one — the latest single from Foo Fighters.
