Sony Pulls Ahead in Console Race, Up a Million Over Microsoft

The numbers were close in the consoles’ first few weeks, but Sony appears to be pulling ahead of Microsoft in the next-gen console race. The company announced today that it sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4s worldwide through Dec. 28, 2013. Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it moved more than three million Xbox Ones last year. The PS4 launched one week sooner than the Xbox One and is available in 53 countries, vs. the Xbox One’s 13. Also likely helping Sony: Its console costs $100 less, at $399 vs. Microsoft’s $499.
