Shallow means not very deep.
Used metaphorically, it is a derogative term used to describe people who are perceived to be superficial or without "depth".
A form of description for an individual for example person seeking things like quick sex in a relationship instead of one's love.
Depth, when describing an individual, usually indicates profundity, intellectual curiosity, and a lack of preoccupation with material possessions or personal appearances. In contrast, somebody who appears superficial*, materialistic**, or petty is likely to be described as shallow.
*Superficial is a general term meaning "regarding the surface", often metaphorically. Both in the literal as in the metaphorical sense the term has often a negative connotation based on the idea that deeper parts are also important to consider.
In human anatomy, superficial describes objects near the body's surface as compared to other objects that may be deep. For example, skin is a superficial structure of the body and muscles are deep to skin. In addition, superficial muscles are those which are just under the skin, often the shape and size of which has an effect on a person's appearance.
Thus, the term is used to describe an observation or analysis that deals only with the most apparent and obvious features of some object, or phenomenon.
A superficial, or alternatively, an "over-simplified" argument is prone to many logical fallacies: includinghasty generalization, division, composition and many others.
A person who exhibits a "superficial" comprehension of some or many subjects may be negatively attributed as being shallow, materialistic, and even exhibiting false emotions through an exaggeratedaffect display. Occasionally they may be pseudointellectual.
The website http://www.thesuperficial.com/ comments on "superficial" news and events from popular culture. "The Superficial is a brutally honest look at society and its obsession with the superficial."
**Materialistic describes a person who is markedly more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values; an adherent of materialismBeing materialistic can also be described as; Persons individually & collectively that impose or promote mostly or only materialistic values & worth over higher { real } values & worth.
Examples of this are evident in the watering down of moral, ethical & spiritual values. Valuing any living beings worth including egs such as humans/persons worth based solely on money, possessions, material success, status in the world, amongst human families, societies, industries, etc. Other significant examples where materialistic values in many people dominate. Includes the limitations in understanding & appreciation of living beings such as animals; including farm, domestic, native & wild animals of various species being subject to only having value in some cases where they provide or have commercial, industrial, profitable & other materialistic benefits only for humans. Without consideration, insight into the real value & worth of these animals as living beings with consciousness, spirituality, feelings, emotions. Be they different or similar to those of humans. Though not always comprehendable to materialistic human beings { who are out of tune with nature & the divine }, but can only be realised through higher appreciation, awareness & intelligence. This can then be enhanced & implemented through holistic & spiritually oriented { above religious } approaches, attitudes & practices. OUTCOME Alongside more holistic, spiritual approaches, with natural, higher thought processes & realisation { rising above materialistic conditioning } achieves~ Non~materialistic approaches in life. With a holistic philosophy, including valuing & realising all living beings were created equal in worth as living beings through the divine source of all life.
