About Me
For now, I'll live vicariously through Japanese music.

This blog is primarily my outlet for cultural and academic discussion, as I think it's quite out of place on my personal journal. It will deal mainly with Japan, but I may touch on other Asian countries if I feel the need. Books and music are completely fair game.
I have been studying Japanese culture, history, sociology, and gender topics for about five years, as well as general Asian history and politics. Most of this has been in a university setting with excellent professors in the fields, supplemented by my own research. At the moment, I am striving to further my knowledge independently during a transitional period, after which I will finish my degree and be very happy for about thirty seconds. At that point, I plan to enter graduate school, pursuing an MA in Japanese History with cultural emphasis. My textbooks are the first thing I pack when I move.
My favorite topics are modern OL culture, popular male aesthetics, traditional/syncretic modern theater, pop lyricism, 1890s-1900s literature, the early Tokugawa period, the late Meiji period, and discussions on the influence Western gender role constructs as they relate to perceptions of homosexuality and aesthetic norms.
...And J-pop.
I don't mind being wrong/disagreed with, and I'm happy with factual and major perceptual corrections. They are completely encouraged in comments. How else do we learn? I have a long way to go, and I'm looking forward to studying this for the rest of my life.
