Wireless @ the Uni

Os dias passam-se depressa, de facto!
Hoje de manhã passei-a grande parte a tentar configurar o windows para poder ligar-me [com segurança!] à rede wireless da minha universidade. Segui os passos todos correctamente e mesmo assim não funcionava, ou seja, todo e qualquer site que fosse fora dos IPs da universidade, eu não conseguia aceder.

Eis que o meu "knight in shining armor" (cavaleiro de armadura brilhante?) apareceu:

Chama-se Pedro e é meu (it's taken!). :) Lá de Bath, pelo gtalk, que era o único programa que funcionava através da ligação wireless, o Pedro disse-me qualquer coisa como "muda o proxy no browser para isto [blá blá blá]". E funcionou!! :]

Ai ai Peet, eu bem digo que me fazes falta... :) <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

A sua ajuda veio mesmo uns minutos antes de eu me chatear a sério com aquilo e pegar no telefone para tentar falar com alguém do helpdesk dos serviços de internet da universidade. :)

Música & Espectáculos

Ontem, à conversa com o meu querido Pedro, houve um momento de felicidade particularmente interessante que se proporcionou (tal como acontece sempre que converso com ele!).

Por causa da conversa vim parar a este site onde de modo muito sucinto que espectáculos (quando e quanto custam) é que vão ocorrer em Nottingham! Está por listagem de A-Z e não sei como os locais escolhidos são sempre ou Nottingham ou Bristol. Nem sei muito bem como é que isso ficou assim, mas é a verdade e facilmente vê que a listagem é só para estas duas cidades.

A conversa surgiu do site do last.fm para espectáculos que são recomendados na área onde nos encontramos.

E foi assim que vi que:

ASOBI SEKSU vêm cá a Nottingham no dia 17 Novembro (segunda-feira!), e que custa somente £7.50 vê-los ao vivo (possivelmente a cantar o seu novo álbum!).

FLEET FOXES no domingo 02 Novembro, por £12.00!

e finalmente!...

GOGOL BORDELLO!!!!! no dia 24 de Novembro por £17.50 (estes são mais carotes!)

Bom, ao de Asobi Seksu sei que quero ir, definitivamente!! Mesmo que vá sozinha. Nunca os vi ao vivo e estou curiosa com o novo álbum. Quanto a Fleet Foxes, também queria muito ver, com o Pedro, se fosse possível!... vamos ver se o convenço a vir visitar-me nesse fim-de-semana e só ir para Bath na segunda-feira de manhã! ;)

Quanto a Gogol, sou muito sincera que o concerto [se decidir ir] não terá nem um décimo da piada que teria se eu pudesse partilhar este momento com a minha querida amiga Ângela. Ainda me lembro de estar a dias da minha partida e dela me perguntar em brincadeira "não estás cá em Dezembro? vêm cá a Lisboa os Gogol Bordello!..."

Numa nota à parte, queria só dizer que os Vampire Weekend vão a Bristol (e não a Nottingham, pelo menos em Nov/Dec) e ... já está esgotadíssimo. :( snarf, não é desta que o meu Peet vai ver os VW.

US Life on Mars: another review emerges

Jace at Televisionary has seen the US Life on Mars and says it still falls short of the original (especially Jason O’Mara versus John Simm in the role of Sam Tyler), but his comments are largely positive. He does have a complaint that the final scene from the first episode of the UK one is not in here—so I wonder if it will creep up elsewhere, since it did impact on the finalé. Meanwhile, on his site was the following two-minute-plus promotional trailer for the première episode:

Quite a few familiar scenes here and I don’t think there will be surprises to anyone who has seen the original series, right down to some of the lines (e.g. the ‘king of the jungle’ quotation from Gene). I’m still looking forward to this.

The truth is, I am (or was) a huge Oasis fan. Back in the day when the single Supersonic hit our college radio station, KFSR 90.7 FM, I knew this band was special. Of course, all the press (NME, Melody Maker, etc) was already "mad for it" as they say.

They were perhaps the biggest hyped band, next to Suede, at the time.

Oasis - Slide Away

I had requested to interview and see Oasis in Sacramento, and at the time no one knew who they were (at least in the US). Of course, I couldn't understand a word that came out of Liam's mouth. I think he said something like "becos I'm the fookin' singer, yea?"

(note: the cover artwork for "Slide Away", one of my favorite Oasis song, has all the band member's autographs - including the rare Noel Gallagher who refused to sign my copy at first.)

By the way, no one recognized Liam, sitting outside the venue (I forget what venue it was), and he and Bonehead was outside smoking and talking to random audiences that came to see the band. Such a different picture now, isn't it? Now you can't even go near them with a ten-foot pole.

Oh and it was such an exciting time, remember the beef between Oasis and Blur? Oasis was "working class" from the north, representing the everyman... and that one time they both release their single at the same time. Oasis and Blur fans were both divided in the middle, you either love Oasis or Blur.

I will confess, I was a bit of a rocker back then, so it was Oasis for me. As it turned out, Blur did end up winning over Oasis with 274,000 copies of "Country House", just about 50k over Oasis' "Roll with It".

Say what you will, it was good publicity, I don't know if an average album even move that many units these days, let alone a single.

By the time Oasis came back for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, they were selling out near-Stadium shows. I did went to see them in San Francisco and I remember having to borrow someone's bionocular to see Liam on stage. Oh man, when they broke out their "I Am the Walrus" cover, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was belting out their best Beatles "cuckoocachoo!".

I won't go into more details about my relationship with Oasis, but I wasn't so impress with Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, Don't Believe the Truth. There are some outstanding songs on each of the albums, but let's just say I wasn't really into it as I should.

So what do we have here, Oasis is releasing Dig Out Your Soul this coming Tuesday (Monday for UK, October 6^th).

I see that Noel Gallagher have soften his grip on Oasis and have let his brother Liam and others write and contribute songs to the new album. I know he slowly started letting the other band members contribute songs, if you recall Liam's "Little James" on the Standing record (which I actually will admit to not liking that song).

On this record, I see that Gem and Andy contributed some songs (they've been doing it since Heathen).

I thought the relationship of the two Gallagher (one writes, the other sings) worked best. I don't normally like Noel doing the singing (he sounds like he tries too hard), but I really love "Falling Down" on the new record. I think Noel is one of the best song writer, even his lyrics on this one have improved from his early days.

If you like Oasis, it doesn't really matter, you'll probably buy the CD anyway. They are offering a very expensive package Super Deluxe Boxset for $99 that comes with 2 CD, 1 DVD, 4 Vinyls, a hardback book in a box, and digital downloads. As much as I love Oasis, that price is too ridiculous for me right now - but if this was available in 1994, I would've slap down my Benjamin for this.

Oasis is about to set out on tour, go a head and see them. Bring binoculars.

Como se me servisse de alguma coisa, só agora é que me apercebi que hoje é dia 5 de Outubro e é feriado em Portugal! Bom, também... é um feriado ao domingo... não há grande diferença...

Por aqui, feriados... só no Natal, Boxing Day e... é só mesmo isso. É a vida...

A propósito do Magalhães, esse pequenito pc com plataforma da Intel®, que vai servir para revolucionar (esperemos nós!) o ensino do 1º ciclo em Portugal.

Leiam aqui uma boa crónica que denuncia a falta de organização que existe nos workshops de informação útil que a Intel e a DREC providencia aos professores do 1º ciclo, por esse país fora.

É triste... desde o pormenor de haver pessoal a assambarcar mais do que uma pen drive usb com dados sobre a formação; até à palhaçada de criar um jingle para o produto. Mas não há pessoal de marketing suficiente em Portugal para tratar desse problema?! E os professores não têm personalidade própria???

Cada vez fico mais contente da minha mãe ter tido a sorte de se reformar em Junho.

Eu já sabia para o que vinha.
Eu já sabia que no outono a chuva viria com força.

Mas sinceramente, até sabe bem estar em casa a estudar enquanto chove lá fora. A parte que é chata é o quanto frio que o meu quarto é. Credo!

E agora... back to poorly soluble drugs. :)

Eu até queria postar aqui fotografias do meu quarto, da chuva lá fora, da vizinhança, etc etc... mas a minha máquina demoníaca (que deixei descansar em paz durante 2 semanas) não me dá tréguas: simplesmente não tira fotografias. Frustrante? MUITÍSSIMO!!!

Today is the lastday for me before I'm going back to Sarawak tomorrow. Duh, it is really slow to open p vox and this really makes me feel totally PISS OFF. I'll gonna change my blog. Somewhere which is faster and easier for me to write. Damn I hate VOX!!

I think not. Mas... para mim é. Praticamente desde que cheguei não apanhei chuva, e a verdade é que ainda não comprei um guarda-chuva e parece-me que se o comprar, é só mesmo porque sim.

Ir à loja da Virgin para iniciar o meu contrato para ter broadband em casa, no meu quarto.

Meeting com os meus supervisores do meu primeiro mini-projecto para estes meses. Nanopartículas, cá vou eu!

Comprar um estendal para estender a minha roupa. (wow!)

E também é hoje que vou cozinhar para a Teresa, para ela experimentar os tortellini que temos de ham&cheese.

Bom, e agora lá vou eu ali para a casa-de-banho. :)

Amanhã, é dia de Targeted Therapeutics induction day. Ou seja, das 10am-4pm estarei enfiada numa sala com uns doutores para me ensinarem o que eu preciso de saber sobre isto! :)
