crafty night

My soon-to-be-former boss came over tonight and we had a super craft fun time. We ate tuna melts and watched Project Runway and put new fabric on my computer chair and made ornaments and coasters and etc. And had one heckuva time.

Will post results of chair makeover tomm. Here is a pic of the original chair

DANIEL AND HIS STUPID FACE AUF'D!

Only thing would have made this better would be if Terri won. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride damnit. Terri is my choice to win. Girl is effin' fierce. Girl is so fierce she would eat Christian for LUNCH and make an outfit out of his bones and it would be twice as fierce as anything anyone could make.

Kenley is getting on my nerves this week. It was funny last week, now she's just being obnoxious.

Blayne needs to cool it with the -licious. I wish Leanne had barf-licioused on him.

Korto is the designer equivelant of that friend you have who says she's not smart or funny at all but who is actually twice as smart as funny than everyone, so she says "OMG I AM SO BAD" and then whips something out that makes you go "FUCK I WILL NEVER BE AS AWESOME AS YOU." Most of the time. I think she's only made one or two not very good garments, and everything else has ruled. I like that she has confidence crises every now and then.

I still think Suede is adorable, but then again, I love puppies. And he is just an anxious Golden Retriever puppy with a blue fauxhawk. Everything about him says, "Please like me. Please like me!" And I say, yes Suede, I like you.

Ok, and how did the straight guy make the top drag queen design. It's especially weird that he said, "I have to imagine I'm making a costume for my daughters." Um, Joe? Would you want your daughters wearing that? Be honest with me, please.

Anyway.

Maybe this was my point

I think it would be swell if more companies had occasional "this is what we're working on" posts, to complement the "this is what we've done" posts. You know, mostly just to allay the (not entirely unfounded) fears of users that development has ground to a halt and no one cares about the site any more. Again, it might have something to do with how much a hang out on the bleeding edge of projects done by passionate geeks. I sympathize entirely-- plenty of things that I've started have just totally fizzled.

Or, in the case of VOX, six new themes does not constitute and exciting new idea in community-oriented blogging.

Gawd, I'm a catty bitch today.

That reminds me, though, you should totally be watching Project Runway Australia. Happily, though, I think PR USA has finally weeded out enough designers that we can actually start feeling some of the interpersonal drama. Also, in case it wasn't totally obvious NEVER, EVER mention your disabled grandmother if you're on a Bravo show. Or a debilitating accident. You will be going home.

Indie Music On TV

One thing I've noticed lately is a trend towards having indie music in TV ads and TV shows. It makes sense to me... From an indie artist's perspective, they have to support their art SOMEHOW, and at least doing ads and TV shows gets their music to a wider audience. From a TV/ad executive's perspective, it's probably a lot less expensive to get tracks from indie artists than from established ones. Personally I find it kind of cool to catch an iPod ad featuring a Feist song or something.

But I really LOVE it when a TV show makes a concerted effort to put together an awesome soundtrack comprised mainly of indie bands. It doesn't hurt if the show itself is as awesome as its soundtrack. This is why I'm stoked to tell you all about the newest show coming to BBC America. It's called SKINS and it's premiering here August 17 at 9pm/8c on BBC America. It's one of Britain's top TV shows, and follows a group of high school friends dealing with their crazy lives as best they can. It's not unlike My So Called Life or One Tree Hill, but the show addresses all of the issues that are important to teens in its own way. It's awesome because the plots aren't some fantasy created by adult writers based on what they think a teen's life MIGHT be like... The show's writing staff is mostly teens and young adults, so there's a sense of reality that makes you feel like these characters could be your friends, or even yourself.

Best of all, the show features some awesome indie music. The first season soundtrack has Gossip, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Earlies, The Hives, and the most amazing cover of Wild World (done by one of the show's characters) ever. The theme song is by Fat Segal and there are even more awesome bands to be heard within the episodes themselves (Band of Horses, for example). Anyway, if you want to catch an amazing show and hear some amazing music at the same time, I definitely recommend you check out SKINS on Sunday, August 17th at 9pm/8c. I know you'll love it.

Chicfreaksali: Horrific. This is like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century goes to the disco. N to the O. Does anyone else know why Blayne is still there? Is he sleeping with a producer? Did he give someone unlimited tans to the Malibu Tans branch in Yakima?

Amy: It's just alright. What I really want to know though is how is that girl supposed to get her tan on in that, Blayne?

Amy: This in no way is appropriate for the occasion but I think it's adorably simple. I love the vintage vibe and I love the model's styling, too. I do not love Daniels' sad clown vibe though.

Chicfreaksali: I actually thought this one should win, because he seemed to take the challenge the most seriously. Is it my favorite outfit? No, but I do think it’s cute. Howevah, I'm not sure about the skort aspect of the outfit.

Amy:I suppose it's sporty and appropriate and well made. I could see some USA women rocking this. I think it's the word "skort" that bothers me the most.

Chicfreaksali: Okay, I will concede that the Olympic women could wear this to the ceremonies, but I still don’t think it’s quite as appropriate as Joe’s lil number. That said, DANG – this is a cute outfit, and Terri is my pick to win PR this year. If she doesn't market that jacket and sell it in Macy's Inc. line, I'll just DIE Seriously. Terri - are you reading this? Where can I get one? And while you're at it, can you whip me up one of last week's outfits too? Girlfriend is da b-o-m-b. I heart her.

Amy: My winner. What's not to love? Tux stripe down pants – cute. Jacket – well made and sharp. Scarfy thing – I think we've covered that to death – love. USA women would KILL the Opening Ceremony in this. So chic.
