What's the one thing you're most neurotic about?
This takes up a lot of time! It's fun but it also gets really really tiring to do sometimes. I can spend the whole day doing this.
What's the one thing you're most neurotic about?
*Most* neurotic? Cleaning. And putting things away. I'm very particular about how things get put away and how things (especially the kitchen) get cleaned. Now that I'm aware of it, I try to let go and let other people help, but it's tough sometimes. It's definitely something that I'm neurotic about only in my *own* kitchen, though. Other people's kitchens can be as messy as they want :)
What's the one thing you're most neurotic about?
Neurotic is my middle name.

But honestly, the amount of things I'm neurotic about is really high. I'm going to talk about this topic off of the top of my head.
The word Neurotic refers to any mental imbalance that causes distress.
When I am in bed laying down I am neurotic about a multitude of things.
If my hair is touching my back or shoulders in any way it causes me great distress.
if the bottom of my pillow hits anywhere above my shoulders. it has to come right there in my neck/shoulder space.
if the blankets aren't pulled up to my neck, over my shoulders I get really freaked out.
if my sheets, memory foam, pillow, or blankets are out of place.
if skin is touching skin. whether it's my skin on my own skin or someone elses skin on my own.
if I'm wearing underwear or pants.
wow I sound absolutely insane.
When I am sitting on the couch and the cushions are sliding out and/or touching the back of my calves. omg.
when I light a candle I cannot just let it burn, I have to push the sides of the wax down to be level with the rest.
When I use the bathroom I have to either pull my shirt up over my stomach or take it off completely.

Oh, so many things. I'm just naturally neurotic. :-)
I have a thing about feeling symmetrical. My glasses must sit correctly on my face, it bugs me if one sock feels thicker than another, etc. Sometimes if one hand touches something cold, I'll touch it with the other hand as well.
When I was a kid I was obsessed with everyone else doing "the right thing", whether that be coloring in the lines or being nice to the other kids. I don't think I was mean or bossy to my classmates, it would just unsettle me if they didn't do things correctly. I'm still a bit of a silent control-freak on group projects and stuff.

I have many, many neuroses, but I think that my skin is the number one! I think it's of pretty good quality, it doesn't need much care and it is usually smooth and blemish-free. I basically just use Clinique's Three Step and that's it... But, in the off chance that I do get a zit I get really really upset! In my mind it is magnified many times, it is all I can see! I am no longer just me with a zit, I am the person hiding behind it! I know this is ridiculous but I can't help it! I check its state every five minutes and I apply Clinique's anti-blemish solutions gel religiously until the enemy is vanished...

ONE thing?!?! Right. I'm neurotic about damn near everything, and paranoid about nearly that much. For instance, when I get pissed off, I worry about whether or not I actually have the right to be pissed off...if I misread a situation...if I took something the wrong way...if I'm overreacting...if I'm *gasp* wrong...if me being pissed off is going to piss off somebody else...
See what I mean? That's why I'm learning to just say, "Fuck it, I'm pissed."

I'm terrified of someone dying without knowing that I love them. This can be a positive thing, because it means that I try to resolve conflict as soon as possible so that resentment doesn't have time to grow and just in case something would happen, my last conversation with them would be an amiable one. But I can also be annoying with it, because if you're mad at me, I can't stand it and will bug you until you forgive me and I feel that everything is okay between us. And as silly as it sounds, I have to see all of my cats before I leave the house each day so that in case anything should happen to me or them, they'll know that I love them.

Closing doors at night. I still fear an open closet door, especially. I just cannot go to sleep knowing there's a door open, even slightly.

It bugs the shit out of me when people don't "pay attention" to their surroundings, what they are doing, or how it affects those around them.

I know it's just me, and the fact that I'm hyper-aware of my surroundings. I know that realistically, people just don't think about every little thing like I do...but it still bugs.

When I was about 7 or 8, I had a birthday party in which I locked myself in my bedroom crying. Why? Cuz my friends wanted to play with my toys. And my mother had let them!!
It's the same now. If I have a party, I worry someone will break my dishes, knickknacks, furniture, electronics, appliances, CDs, DVDs, the glass in the framed prints on the walls, a window, or my heart. Mostly though, I worry someone will accidentally let out the cat.
It's embarrassing, but the loss of control over my own home is really too much for me to take.
So I'm working on it. I've only been in my new place a few weeks and I've already had a small spontaneous open house, a baking day, and a dinner guest. Someday I might be normal....

Having my bed made everyday... I can not sleep in an unmade bed.
Never using the decorative dish towels in the kitchen, they are just for decorations. the ones to use are in a separate draw...
Never using the decorative cutting board, it too is for decoration. The one to use is in also in a different location.
Leaving dirty dishes in the sink.
Vaccuum Lines.
Folding corners of pages in books, magazines...
collecting Martha Stewart Magazines.

What's the one thing you're most neurotic about?
I think that it is unfair to be only allowed to have one thing as I am equally neurotic about all my quirks. One must give them equal love. But, I guess that the majority of them could be grouped together under the umbrella of "Did I Left X On?". The 'X' is not so much an X-File but a whole catalogue of household equipment that I spent my time fretting about: iron, hairdryer, straighteners, stove top, oven, taps, etc. I swear that niggling thought of did I leave something on that will either burn down the flat or flood it is embedded in my DNA.
99.9% of the time I haven't left anything on but that still doesn't stop me from leaping out of bed in the middle of the night to check, or walking around the flat like a zombie staring at sockets before I go out anywhere. I am trying to make memories so that when I am half way to the PATH train I don't start to panic about if I having left the oven on (because you all know that most mornings before I go to work I roast a chicken) and I try to recall the memory of me standing in front of the oven staring at the dials.
Sometimes I think the worst bit is being self-aware about my quirks and knowing that they are irrational, or perhaps that is my saving grace? Perhaps I am neurotic about being neurotic. A few weeks ago I couldn't sleep so I lay in bed trying to run through all the things I am on the tipping point towards OCD. I think I might have been better counting sheep but then I would have had to wash my hands afterwards because they are animals.

I have a tendency to line things up in my sight - foreground to background, my hood ornament to pedestrians, that kind of thing.

Insects, particularly ants, earwigs, cockroaches and spiders ... they just freak me out ... if I see one my skins crawls for the rest of the day as if they are walking on me and i get all jumpy ... I'll scrub the entire kitchen down if i find any in there anywhere ...

I'm not sure if it's a side-effect of working with computers for too long, or that I live with quite possibly the most messy/chaotic person in the entire universe.
Bizarrely - going completely against conventional thinking that says untidy people make good Tetris players, I can beat her every time at it. Go figure.

"Most" neurotic? Hmmmmm, well.....I'm pretty neirotic about a lot of things.
But I'd have to say probably my habbit of picking things up off the ground and taking them home is one of the odder things I do. Bits of metel, wood (branches, fallen bark and logs), broken bits of toys, jars, pretty rocks, interestingly broken chunks of beer bottle ... I tend to snag these things, drag them home and see what I can do with them. I have delusions of doing found object art but that hasn't exactly happened yet. lol
I'm also pretty obbsesvie about picking up trash. If I have a bag or am near a trash can, beware litter! I will swoop and pounce and throw stuff a way because littering PISSES ME OFF.
Ahem.
We won't go into what I do with the stuffed animals ...
