This is the second of three songs in tribute to my father who passed away recently. It's my version of Through the barricades, originally performed by the group Spandau ballet. If you didn't know what it was about, I'll tell you. It's about the troubles in Northern Ireland.

I mentioned I was going to say a few things about my dad's life, and so I will. I only know a small part of what happened in his life. Still there's enough to mention that will astonish even the most resolute.
My Dad. Part 1
I'll start with the simple stuff. He was born in a place called Hammersmith, in West London. His mother Lily was a wonderful person, but the same could not be said of his father. An Irish waiter by trade. If you can call it a trade. The father used to beat his mother whilst John was looking on. It's no surprise that he had deep seated dislike for him. His father wasn't around for long, and this explains the fact that his brothers and sisters have a different surname to him. As a youngster he used to get into lots of trouble. This was just a sign of what was to come in the future. Just a sign though. Some of the individuals he met in life ended up quite successful, and some of those achieved fame.
John joined the Navy at a young age. Though he only managed to hold in there for under 4 years before being dismissed. He got a reputation for fighting, and as a gambling man, he used to set up fighting fixtures with side betting. During his service, and many fights, he managed to get away with only one loss. During his service, he opted to take it upon himself to depart from the Navy, before his compulsory term had finished. concealing himself within the ranks of travelling gypsies, and eventually hiding out at his mothers house. This is where the M.P.s finally tracked him down. As they were talking to his mother on the doorstep, John was climbing out of the back window, but he didn't get far before they carted him back into service.

On another note. This is quite exciting for me. I've finally put together my first album. It's titled "Sight Or Sound". As I'm working on a shoestring budget, the album is going out on digital release only. It's been difficult doing everything myself. The performing, mixing mastering and artwork etc. It's helped with the costs though. So it's going to be available in many places including Itunes, Amazon, Napster etc. I don't want to come across as an anorak, but I was really extremely proud to have got the barcode for the album. Hooray! It now has a global product identity, and that's official :)
From what I can gather, it looks like the first availability will be in about a month. Then it will roll out to other online stores over the next couple of months. I'll be blogging it when it does, and telling about any reviews etc.

My subscribers have increased to 890. Only 10 off 900.
The viewings on my channel have passed the 20k milestone, pushing forward to 20,672.
The total video views are now 343,712.

This is like, my favourite song. It's been a year, but it's still one of my favourites. I think, if you checked my last.fm infoz, this is the song I've listened to the most. When I catch myself humming a tune or singing to myself, it's most likely this. I <3 it.
Bahashishi, not a very popular group but their songs are good, in my opinion. But their lead singer...I think her voice is junk, not to be mean or anything, just not my style, its not nice to listen too.....

Thursday 25 Sept 2008 - Saw 2001: A Space Odyssey at the Bloor Cinema with some friends. Sweet movie, love it. A great contrast to others.
Sunday 28 Sept 2008 - Saw The Last Mistress at the Bloor Cinema by myself because someone recommended it and it was excellent. I may need to get it on DVD. The plot was good, the acting was interesting and so was the directing. Fuck what IMDB reviewers say about it.
Last week, hunted for tickets for Ratatat...
After the show, checked out Nuit Blanche with friends and it was very crowded and a bit boring. I was buzzed enough to loudly complain about the lighting at one installation. Complaining loudly is only embarrassing if your complaint isn't valid. In any case, could have checked out more exhibits/installations but we didn't because they were crowded or just un-exciting. I've heard the same from everyone else I've talked to about it.

Have you ever had an epic adventure? I don't think I have. I have been fortunate enough to make friends that have changed my life over and over, and I've had conversations that changed the way I thought about and looked at the world. I can't say however, that I've ever gone somewhere/done something/had a conversation that left me feeling a change in progress. I've never walked away from something or gotten on a plane, closed my eyes, and heard Led Zeppelin playing in my head as the sun went down, and actually felt my soul grow.
This was my back yard before moving back to the city. Miss my little buddies that used to love walking up to my back door every morning when waking up. If it wasn't the husband screaming for breakfast it was these guys...lol
I love music and writing and hopes to build this blog up before long......so bare with me cause I'm just starting up here.

Well almost, I never really planned to take this much time out between blogs, it's not that we've been sitting on our asses, it's more to do with the fact I've been really busy sorting everything out and updating all the sites on the web about the band and by the time I've finished in the evening, its about 2 in the morning and I have to get up at 6 to be in work for 7 (well by 6 I mean my alarm goes off and I sleep till about half past and then take about ten more minutes getting out of bed). Anyway heres a quick update to what I've been up to:
MYSPACE LAYOUT
I spent one evening on the myspace page, sorting out the layouts, backgrounds and images so it looked better, it didn't really look like it was getting much love so I've updated it. The friends box has grown, we've centred the comments and also added a section on the left hand side where people can see what other places we're listed on the internet (and then going through all these pages and updating the details about the band).
New Tracks
Committing Murder and Days Like This are now completely done. Samples will be going up online pretty soon and I've also got to mix an acoustic track we recorded awhile back that laura laid vocals down for this weekend.
For the first 2 tracks, me and andy spent the sunday mixing Committing murder and focusing alot on the guitars because its not my strongest area when it comes to mixing it and being a guitarist he's in a better position to judge what sounds better and what won't. We had a play around for a while and then got the mix sounding pretty good and had a play about bringing the levels up and doing a DIY master of it using Har Bal EQ (google it for more info)and then running it through a limiter. We're actually really happy with how the track turned out and have spent the last 3 hours going through days like this and remixing that track again to make it sound more alive and make the guitar levels more prominent.
I think that sums up the last couple of days, for this week now, targets we're looking at are:
