Sony Brings Movie Purchase and Rentals to PS3

Sony launched a new Playstation Store on July 15, 2008 with the ability to download TV shows and movie rentals and purchases directly to your PS3. This new service peeked my interest so I decided to dig for some more more details.

Renting and Purchasing Movies -- Sony vs. AppleTV:
Pricing for SD and HD (up to 1080p) content seems appropriate and is based upon the size and resolution of the content. One feature of note is the ability to transfer your purchases and rentals to up to 3 PSP's. Impressive! But, there's a glitch for rentals. You have up to 14 days to view your movie and 24 hours once viewing has begun before your rented content is erased from your PS3's harddrive. Compare that to AppleTV (iTunes) which gives you 30 days with the same 24 hour viewing limit. Personally, I wish they would give us 3 days; some of us have kids who need attention every 20 minutes (even when they SHOULD be asleep). However, Apple only offers rentals at up to 720p for HD, even though the AppleTV is capable of 1080p . Neither service requires a subscription, unlike Netflix. With both AppleTV and Playstation Store, you begin watching the movie withing minutes of beginning the download without waiting for for the download to complete.

Verdict?
As a PS3 owner who has enjoyed the ability to download HD movie trailers (though they need more!), I have been eagerly anticipating these new features since they were first announced. While I probably won't purchase movies this way, since I prefer to have the media, I am anxious to try this new service for rentals. When I do, I'll post the experience here to my blog. Stay tuned...

Too Many Gasms

Oh gobs the batman movie was friggin' AMAZING. We saw it on IMAX. I movie-gasmed all over the seat. SO good. The audience friggin' applauded at the end.

I saw the Twilight poster at the theater and tried to take a picture of it but my camera phone sucks and there were too many people around to get a good shot. damn.

We also went to the mall. I got a couple books on sale and an ADORABLE bunny eared hoodie.

Then we ate and came home. I rented Penelope so I could see the Twilight preview and the extras that are supposed to be there. *second set of movie-gasms today*

Batman? Batman! Batman?!

I tagged along with the CTA boys to the midnight showing of the latest Batman movie last night. Apparently D had heard, or in the past visited, guess I'm unclear about that one, a theater up in Vancouver called Cinetopia. Tickets are a bit pricey, some $16 but in exchange for a higher ticket cost they do two main things: 1. changing the seating arrangement so that you're in huge comfortable leather chairs with foot rests and 2. making the showing teeny-bopper free with an 21 and over crowd only, thus allowing us to order beer and "restaurant-style" food for a price. So it ended up being an expensive movie night, but totally worth it for the movie.

Batman: The Dark Knight was an amazing movie. The entire movie they never pulled a punch, it was always edge-of-the-seat action sequences and a constant jumping from one climatic scene to the next. At over two hours, I never thought it would keep my interest throughout - I'm not the worlds largest Batman fan. But it was fun, and totally worth seeing. I also think the hype about Heath Ledger was actually, for once, not over-rated - he did an outstanding job at the Joker and it's too bad he won't be around for other films after a performance like that. If you get a chance, totally go see this one. It's that good.

The Bucket List

In a sentence, Bucket List is about terminal cancer patients: Edward (Jack Nicholson) and Carter (Morgan Freeman), thrown in the same hospital room and ended up ticking off their to-do list together before they kick the bucket.

I normally hate movie that has 'main character(s) dying' theme.
I do not mind the ones die from protecting the earth from alien attack or some sort of global disaster.
But from common sickness? I hate it. It just feels ... too close to home?

Anyway, last Tuesday my bf and I have our usual movie+pizza night. Bucket List was not my first choice of course, but it seems to be the only decent movie I have not watched.

The movie was indeed as good as what everybody raves on. There are so many clever lines and good humor. Watching it is like riding an emotional roller-coaster. One minute I am laughing, the next 10 minute I wanted to cry pretty badly (anyway I didn't cry in front of bf while eating pizza)

Like other great movies, it is full of messages to ponder on.
Here what I comes up with [Spoiler Alert]:

It can be too late to realize your dream (or cross off your list)

Carter has always wanted to be a history professor. However, due to circumstances, he spent 45 years 'greased up under the car' to feed his family. Instead of doing what he wanted to do, he did what he had to do. It is admirable but it is obvious he had some regrets.

Before he knew it, it's too late. After all, "45 years gone by pretty fast. Like smoke through a keyhole. "

He also threw his original list away because he thought he does not have time to realize them. Time is so precious.

At the end, there are more important things than your dreams (or your list)

This world is full of dreamers. And most have / will never make them come true. While it certainly sux not to achieve your goals, the important questions perhaps will be:

"Have you found joy in your life?
Has your life brought joy to others?’”

Carter never realized his childhood dreams. And the end, the guys did not cross everything in their list themselves.
But the movie showed them both died with content because they found joy.

Sadly you sometime need money to cross off your bucket list

Nuff said.

Family is more important than money.

Respect patient's wish what to do with their life. As the matter of fact, we should respect everybody's wish what to do with their life.

It is good to have thick skin like Thomas/Tommy (who actually is Matthew) when dealing with crazy boss. And Kopi Luwak is actually cat poop. =)

Any other message you can think of?

So I am telling:
Make a list/ goals. Include your secret wishes and dream as high as you can.
Do not procrastinates on doing them. You do not know how long you have.
Do good. Do random act of kindness. Be yourself.
Cherish your family. Do not hold grudges. Be grateful.
Do not be too proud. Be curious. More importantly, be joyful!
Do not compare yourself with others (my major weakness here), life is too short.
Talk to your parents/ brother/sister/lover/friends as often as your can
Go learn. Go travel. Go have fun. Take risk.
Try to drink Kopi Luwak. LOL a lot.
Stop wasting time in front of TV (seriously).
Earn loads of $$$. Find the work that you love and go for it.
Remember, 45 years will go by so fast like smoke through a keyhole.

And if you do not realize your dream, it's OK since you have given it your best. Do not give up until your time is up. And have fun!

Marvel Productions and The Incredible Hulk

After seeing marvelous Marvel characters such as Daredevil, Elektra, and Ghost Rider get not so great reviews on the silver screen, Marvel comics has decided to take matters into their own hands and create Marvel Productions. This new force to be reckoned with in Hollywood has already achieved groundbreaking success with the recent release of Iron Man, as well as the release of The Incredible Hulk. Even fans were unclear how much this new installment had to do with Ang Lee’s ‘Brokeback’ Hulk from 2003. Will it be a sequel or a completely different re-imagining? Marvel did have more creative control over this film than the other; bringing this installment closer to the original continuity. After gaining a solid reputation as a director from his high-octane Transporter movies, Louis Leterrier promised to direct the kind of action-packed Hulk movie that comic book nerds across the planet have been aching for.

When I watched the Incredible Hulk, I was blown away by the intense action, and a very pleasing aesthetic. The new Hulk character design in the movie bares a much closer resemblance to the way he had been illustrated in recent issues — specifically to the way he was portrayed by popular comic book artist Michael Turner, (who just recently passed away at the age of 37). The Incredible Hulk was a non-stop action thrill ride, without a lot of time misspent dwelling on Bruce Banner’s irrelevant psychological issues, despite the obvious. The movie was only about 110 minutes long, unlike its predecessor; it got right to the point, even bringing the viewer up to speed on the story during the opening credit montage. The plot does not really have much to do with Ang Lee’s version. It is based mostly on a mix of the comic book continuity and the 1970’s television show starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno (who incidentally both make cameos along with creator Stan Lee).

There were also rumors of several Easter eggs in the Hulk. For example, in Iron Man, there was a quick view of Captain America’s iconic shield on Tony Stark’s. I kept my eyes peeled throughout the Hulk staying after the credits, only to learn later that the Easter egg featuring an actual appearance by Captain America frozen in a glacier was cut from the movie altogether. While Cap failed to make an appearance in the theatrical release, a nice bit of fun for the fans was the appearance of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Tony informs General Ross about his plans on assembling a team. With the slightest bit of comic book knowledge, we can assume this is alluding to an eventual Avengers movie. In order for that to happen, the Avengers roster might need to be established first in several solo movies like Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as other Avengers like the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and the Black Widow.

While being a very entertaining movie experience, the ending of the Hulk might leave the viewer with some questions like, “how did all those pedestrians and army guys end up on that roof-top all of the sudden?” or “after seeing how powerful Abomination was, how was Hulk able to simply knock him unconscious by choking him with a chain? He is left alive, so how can something with that kind of strength be safely imprisoned?” Regardless of a few contradictory elements from the movie, I generally declare The Incredible Hulk to be a success, while not as large of a success as Iron Man, this new Hulk movie more than makes up for the last one.

For those of you who enjoy the movies based on comics that have been in abundance over the years, I (and many other nerdy fanboys) strongly urge you to pick up some comics and start reading the stories that spawned these multi-million dollar franchises. These movies, for the most part, are always quite excellent, but ask any reader, and he or she will tell you that the original stories are way better!

<-- palaver zine 002, $3. listed today in my etsy shop ! yes ! the second issue of my zine is here ! the first issue is also available in my etsy shop. palaver zine is a zine made by me, almost completely by hand. i cut, i paste, i collage, i write, i ask, i read and it all comes together in this zine ! the first issue was a mere 14 pages, but this month, i've grown it into 18 pages ! get the while you can ! they sell rather quickly.

i'm so tired. i haven't written here in a while, so i figured, i need to get back where i was ! hehe. so the past week was, somewhat eventful i suppose. saturday was busy. i had to go to the orthodontist [because i'm a loser who still has braces. -____- i've had them on for five years !] and then after the orthodontist, i went to the metropolitan museum of art, just to kill time, because later i had to go to the bon jovi concert ! the free one in central park for the all star game. it was a true new york city event that no one should've missed... but i guess you can't fit everyone on the great lawn. the concert was a lot of fun, even though i was one of the only ones really dancing. the age range was so wide since it was a free concert and all, so there were little kids, grandparents, parents, you name it ! it was really great though. we got there 6 hours ahead, even though many people had already gotten there. some people waited the night... too bad i had an orthodontist appointment. but i've had an attachment to the bon ever since i was in 3rd grade and heard 'it's my life.' i always take pride in saying i was a super cool 3rd grader who liked bon jovi and the red hot chili peppers, and even got both cds for my birthday ! but then my alternative rock phase ended until 5th grade. i was raised on the backstreet boys, nsync, the spice girls, the works. alternative rock was never really my oldest sister's thing in her teenage years, so i experienced the pop of the 90s rather than the grunge that i discovered once i was in 7th grade. since my tastes have changed so many times, i have such wide music knowledge. i love that. but anyway, bon jovi was really great ! and i went completely insane [not that i don't at every other concert i go to, i'm the obnoxious one in the crowd. music makes me an extrovert, like alcohol for some people].

then my life became uneventful until yesterday when i chilled with two of my good friends. i brought over amelie [the french film] and they seemed to like it. i usually bring weird movies for them to watch, but i tried not to make it too weird this time. i actually thought about it i guess. but i love amelie so much. it's so near and dear to my heart. the story, the visuals, the sound. i just love it so much. it's the type of film where the effort is shown. it's like a pan's labyrinth or lord of the rings of sorts. you can always tell when a filmmaker has tried his [or her] best on a particular film. it's just like, this extra blast of special spice. it's spicy. it's like... paprika or something. i love films like that. you can tell the work was put in and they cared so deeply about the film and its point. moments like that are the best kind.

Got ditched for Batman. =(

Anyway, I got free tickets from work to see Batman yesterday. Heath totally rocked it. Go Aussie actors. He was so creepy. Maggie was so much better than Katie. Loveeee Bruce Wayne suits.

But... the movie was too scary for me. I didn't watch a lot of it. Ha ha ha. The whole time I was thinking "when is this movie going to end? I'm scaaareeed". I'm such a wuss.

But I still can't stand how his voice changes. It's so awful. Also, I wonder how Gotham City looks so modern this time around? Weird. I pay too much attention to these other things, rather than the story line.

The Dark Knight: 7/10; Heath: 10/10

im down to one last breath

The weather looks promising for the past few days so i think im gonna start my work tomorrow. Ive been staying inside since Izzah went back because: 1. not feeling well, 2. the weather looks gloomy from the inside and 3. i cant be bother to wake up due to extra laziness that comes up once a month. paham tah kamu tu. On top of that, ive been dreaming of home lately especially the bestfriends. There was one night i dreamt of texting Liz to meet me at coffeezone. Rindu jua udah ku tu. and of course the family. I cried watching 'I not stupid' and 'I not stupid too' (a singaporean movies), lama pulang udah movies atu masa zaman sekolah menengah udah but barutah ada kesempatan kan meliat. You guys should watch it, it's a very moving movie touches on family values. There's one scene in the second movie where this innocent boy longing for his parents' love so much he tried saving up money just to buy an hour of his dad's time to attend his school performance (before that he overheard his dad saying that his business clients pay him $500 per hour). And towards the end when his parents realised their neglection, the boy shows them a paper reads FAMILY and he says, do you know what this means? he then says, "Father And Mother I Love You". Awwwwwww :'( Real stuffs man.

back to my dream, sekali kan after i msg c Liz barutah ku realise that lesen kritaku expired so i cant go anywhere yet. Then something about the family pastu tebangun tia ku. Sasak ku eh, siuk sudah ku d Brunei.. salah timing ku tebangun atu :(

Jack Black -Kung Fu Panda Trailer Movie (Teaser) 6 June 2008

For the past year, I haven't watched that movies, except for the recent summer months. They started becoming interesting, and I've been to the movie theater at least once every 2 weeks. I can just feel the money flying out of my pocket.

Kung Fu Panda, Wanted, Incredible Hulk, Don't Mess with the Zohan, Hancock, Wall-E so far. Out of all those, I liked Kung Fu Panda the most. It was beautifully done, and I'm a huge kung fu movie fan. It really did do things right, and didn't disappoint. I'm not even a Jack Black fan.

I want to watch Get Smart, Journey to the Center of the Earth (I'll watch almost anything if it's 3D :P), Hellboy II, and the Dark Knight. And I still haven't seen the new Indy Jones movie.
