Monday, you just weren't what I thought you would be

I had big plans for Monday. Yup, I was going to get up, get the kids to school, come home and totally kick butt cleaning up after a busy weekend. I was even going to reward myself with a nap for doing such a good job with the cleaning. Oh, and throw more stuff in the bread machine because a 2 lb weight gain and tight jeans just isn't enough to deter me from making more delicious yeast breads. (Seriously, cinnamon rolls with yeast dough vs. with bisquik, no contest!)

So yeah, I get home from dropping the kids off, pour myself another cup of coffee, grab my Bible study workbook (gotta keep up with the homework), and start to sit down. Think to self, better check Caller ID and make sure no one called while I was gone. See school number. Check voicemail. Find out a child left lunch in backseat. Rush through homework. Jump in shower. Make myself presentable. Leave to take child lunch (one hour roundtrip ride). Come back home. Start working on dishes. Make lunch for husband that is working from home (if that is what you call playing Tetris on facebook). Phone call from my mom saying she's coming to the kids' soccer/volleyball games. Work harder on dishes so I can attempt to make the rest of the house halfway presentable. Realize I still need to make pizza dough for the calzones I'm planning for dinner. Throw ingredients in bread machine. Do more housework while chatting with a friend on the phone. Parents arrive. Take dough out of bread machine and pop it into the fridge so it doesn't rise and spill over while I'm gone. Run to school. Watch games. Come home. Start assembling calzones and heating up leftover corn chowder for dinner. Remind kids to do homework, repeatedly. Feed parents. Throw more stuff in bread machine for white bread so I can make sandwiches in the morning. Parents leave. Kids showering. Send them to bed. Move my cars (Parking Wars, of course). Rob a jewerly store (Mob Wars, of course). Attempt to catch up on my blogs, e-mail and message boards. Spit out a blog post. Realize I'm exhausted.

And now, I'm going to hit the "Save" button, put on some pajamas and go to bed. Well, maybe after a game of Tetris.....

Yesterday I had my birthday party at Susan's and it was so awesome. Susan and Belle had gotten festive and there were flowers for me and sushi and snapple. It was perfect. Connie and Aaron came and so did Crystal. Susan got Art to show. I felt so... I guess the word is blessed. I did try drinking and it started out promising and then I tanked in the end but it was fun while I was feeling warm and fuzzy. We played this card game and I didn't win at all, but that was okay. I'm not too competitive. The Belle and I went down to the pool and soaked our feet. I was a little stupid at the point but I don't think I said anything I want to die for.

Between D's birthday and mine I just feel like I don't see enough of my friends. I never see Crystal or Mario. It's been almost two years since I saw Sonia. And It's been a year since I saw Sasha. I feel like I am so removed from my friends. Alienated. But I'd really like to do something about that. I am going to call Sasha until she goes out to lunch with me. And as for Sonia. I might just get Mario to come up and go visit with me. I'm going to try to not be such an isolationist. Fewer books and more dates.

Today was a really lazy day. I spent the afternoon watching hockey and then my men, Taylor Kitsch and Chace Crawford in the Covenant. I will not defend that movie to anyone. It's so bad it's good in my opinion and anything that gets Taylor Kitsch in small swim shorts gets my endorsement. D let me download the soundtrack too. I really like the scores. After watching the Covenant I had to watch last weeks and this weeks True Blood. I love Jason and Lafayette. They make the show for me. Although I have to admit that the show isn't really holding my attention like I wish it would. I'd rather watch the Covenant.

I finished reading Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder and it was okay. I put a hold on Magic Study. I'll read that as soon as I get it though I have to talk to Belle first. If Valek isn't in the next book than I more than likely don't care to read it. He's essential. For now I still have to read The Kitchen God's Wife and this week I chose Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Something small so I can get it done and dedicate time to reading last week's 20 in 20. Why can't it be City of Bones?

Remember Me?

I have been a bad Vox neighbor. In the eight months I've lived in Brooklyn -- has it been eight months already -- I have barely blogged, rarely read others' blogs, and rarely commented. Truthfully, I've rarely logged in. I've thought about it. I've ridden the train home with great posts running through my head only to eat and pass out from exhaustion. I've missed blogging, and promise to put more effort into this little corner of the internet. And I've missed hearing from all of you.

So, here's the past eight months in a nut shell:

• February 1: Land in Newark, and stay with my dad while I apartment hunt.
• February 2: Go to my second cousin's bat mitzvah.
• February 3: Watch the Giants win the Superbowl!!!!!!
• February 4: Find my apartment on my second day of looking, and sign a lease on a one bedroom with a price tag that would be considered obscene elsewhere, but is a bargain here.
• Went in for the first of two MRI's which never should have been prescribed, but did freak me out.

• February 15: Move into my apartment, and begin the insane task of furnishing it, including two stressful trips to IKEA -- a special form of hell.
• February 18 — Start my new job as General Manager of We-Care.com, a startup company.
• Start a whirlwind romance that crashed in 3 weeks (or was it 2?).

• Realized how fucking expensive NYC is. Really. I thought I knew, but it took some adjusting.

• Realized that my Start Up's product was not ready for prime time, as previously believed.

• March - July — Rebranded, re-architected, redesigned, rebuilt, and relaunched We-Care.com.

• August 1: We-Care.com is live. Shortly after, I take a much needed vacation, but really don't relax because I can't stop thinking about work.

• Realized what Start Up meant: lack of sleep, stress, uncertainty, and the need to do a whole lot with very little. Gratefully, I had a great staff (of two), amazing interns, and very supportive owners.

• March — Remembered that years of living away from here allowed me to forget what a difficult place NYC is to live — that's difficult as in realizing your 45 minute commute is only 4 miles.

• Found a therapist.

• Summer — Went on too many dates with too many rude, ill behaved women. Seriously, there are stories I could tell. (I also went on dates with some very nice women.) Began to wonder why I was spending large amounts of money on rude women, and decided I needed a break from dating.

• Labor Day Weekend: Finally finish decorating my apartment, so it looks like a home instead of a crash pad.

• September 20 — Go to Bob (my brother) and Mandi's wedding. It was possibly the nicesest wedding I've ever been to, and I've never seen my brother — the brother who said he'd never get married — this happy.

• Late September: Watched the economy crumble.

In all, I left 19 years of life in Minneapolis behind, and with it, 19 years of friendships, and all the places that felt familiar. I left a stable dead-end job for an uncertain one with lots of possiblities. I've learned what it's like to be lonely in a new place, and what it's like to slowly -- and it is slow -- build new relationships. I've become jaded about dating, worried about money, and very tired. I've revisioned and rebuilt a web product from the ground up in less than five months, with only two employees, two interns, and three contractors — and I'm damn proud of that (and the people who worked with me). And, I've learned that being close to my family is good and bad, but mostly good. (And I'd say "mostly good" even if I didn't know my dad read my blog.)

It will probably be two years before I can look back and say whether I'm glad I moved back here. But there is one thing I'm sure of: Not moving here would have always left me wondering.

Now, if anyone knows any single women in this area, roughly between 36-44, who don't want to be single, and aren't rude, inconsiderate, or blatently offensive, do let me know. ;-)

Sunday, October 5th

Noon

I has a shed. We were supposed to paint it today but it's too cold, so the paint wouldn't stick right. Or something. It's huge, but still doesn't completely block the creepy old staring guy from my bathroom window. *shrug* Gramma's stuff is gonna go in there when she moves in. Some of it anyway. Not all of it would even fit in this house if we took all of me and my mom's stuff out (which also barely fits). A lot of it will be given away and some will go into storage I think. Terrible. But I don't care. I'll be moving out anyway. I really should save more. I've been spending a lot lately. But I can't help it. I've gone so long without being able to have anything that I really want to reward myself for little things in a way I never could for... any things before. I'm not buying too much STUFF really. Just Wen and food. Really great food. Delivered to me. Dot com. XD!

I went to Niki's after work on Friday and we ordered in from a sushi place. The sushi was amaaazing and I got a delicious seaweed salad too. Niki got teriyaki chicken (of course XD!) that came with rice, miso soup, a salad (for little kookz!) and these mysterious, yet delicious, pouches of meat. I french-braided her hair, trimmed her NANA wig to perfection and we watched The Breakfast Club (and took pictures). It was super duper fun. And then I went to sleeps.

Yesterday I woke up at 8:30am to find that Chris had been there the whole time. I thought he was at his dad's, but he had just been in his room sleeping since like 6pm the night before. XD!!! I took a shower, then we chatted a bit while Niki was sleeping, and watched super hard mario.

Me and Niknik went to the health food shop and found out the goff girl there is having a baby girl! But apparently it's Tim's, so Niki's back to marrying the sushi chef at my work. Even though the baby is really hers. XD!!! We got mint chocolate swirl rice cream and ate it outside the closed cafe next to the health food shop and had a chat. Then we went back to her house on the bus (while taking pictures) and watched mochi poof up in the oven while laughing (and taking pictures). We had it with some of the agave nectar I bought, and it was reeeally good. And I gave her a treat stick, which she enjoyed. XD

Then I went to Camcam's and watched him fly around his tiny RC helicopter. It's sooo cute! Then we had chicken/azn n00dles/key-lime bars his mom made (surprisingly edible... because it all came out of boxes besides the chicken which was juicy but devastatingly flavorless), and he played with his synth some and showed me Portal before we watched some Initial D and had super cuddles times™. JESUS, that's my boy.

My mom is driving me nuts today. It's one of those days where she got up at the exact same time as me, and decided to do shit in the room I'm in, and give me no privacy and not allowing me to concentrate... CONSTANTLY interrupting me to make me set up this stupid fucking shelf.

There are three new girls in the deli, so I'm working four days a week now instead of five. That gets me $180 a week.

The new health food store opens up in like a month (maybe two?). It's really tempting. If I could work five days a week there, even with slightly less money per hour I'd probably be making more and liking my job more.

She's pounding metal with a mallot three feet away. HELP ME.

I can take "seeing Gwar live" off the list of things I want to do before I die. I haven't had that much fun at a concert in a long time. Ridiculous, obscene, offensive, and borderline scary entertainment.

We walked into 7-11 afterwards cause I really had to pee and wanted a slurpee. The guy behind the counter says, "I have to ask. What happened to you guys?!" haha

Man, last two weeks have been crazy. Me catching cold didn't help either....

And it's not even connected to" Converting investment bank into commercial bank" thing either. No one in Tokyo seems to have any idea how that's gonna impact things (probably they are still figuring stuff out up there in NYC). It was all about the Japanese tax authority. You see, my boss has this fascinating ability to screw up the whole process of mining data, putting required stuff in order and come up with a decent looking list. Good thing I'm pretty good at this. That said, it's still beyond my comprehension how a corporate lawyer can overlook the difference between calendar year and fiscal year. You would imagine going through all those small fine prints would be what they are good at, right??

... Anyway things should (hopefully) calm down so I can go back to checking out new drama and some episodes that I'm missing.

Can't sleep ... clowns will eat me

Okay not really, but I can't sleep. For some strange reason, I've had a lot more energy and haven't been able to sleep much at night. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm finally seeing the progress of my back healing. Did I mention that all of my fibromyalgia symptoms went away after my back surgery? I'm almost "normal" again.

I'm excitedly making plans to go back to work. It will still be another couple months before I will physically be able to work again, but it's great to know that it's coming. It's sort of like starting my adult life all over again, and I can choose to be anything I want to be.

So, I was looking around my neighborhood just a minute ago and came across this 'quiz' at Atlantis's VOX. I answered it twice because the first time I answered it I wavered between answers 'this or that'. So, after getting that I'm GREEN and that my opposite is RED.
