before my recap, i just want to say that since i've been back, mia's told me no fewer than 20 times (in different ways) that she loves me.
"mama, i just LOVE you!"
"i love you, mama!"
"i looooove you!"

yeah. all last night and this morning she's been telling me... boy, make her feel abandoned and she'll be a good little girl and tell me she loves me. woohoo! best.mom.ever. she hasn't told me that she loves me since... i don't even remember! it's been MONTHS. and she only told me that once!

oh, and she started getting sick at grandma's. :( she's not too bad, but last night, she had a pretty high fever. i didn't measure it, but she hasn't had a fever in a long time. poor baby. she takes after me, i guess. up until high school, i used to get sick anytime i spent the night away from home. :( literally homesick, i guess. weird, huh? hopefully she gets better soon. i had to tell conner's mom to keep conner home. i didn't want him to get sick.

anyway, back to the con. there weren't very many freebies this year so i don't really have anything to send out to anyone. but, i do have some Doctor Who and Spaced postcards, so if you want one, PM me and i'll mail one out to you. :D

there's a long post ahead... and/or peep my pics. they're not that impressive. i didn't take any pics on the floor (too many people and it was nuts) and in some panels, i wasn't at a good angle to take pics of the big screens... so yeah.

THURSDAY

i was fully packed and ready to go. packed the car up while the kids were sleeping so that when conner's mom came to pick him up, i could just stick mia in the car and take off. i was trying to make the 5pm train and i knew it would be tight. so mia and i ran to the car and we were gone before conner's mom was even finished getting conner in his car seat. haha! i raced back and got to the train station with maybe 40 or so minutes to spare, but i was still nervous because there were a TON of people trying to get on the train. i finally got on, but it was basically standing room only. which sucked. i ended up sitting on the ground. and that REALLY sucked. but i just started a book and in no time at all, i was in san diego.

there was a HUGE accident going southbound on the 5 so steve's friends who left at 7:30 AM didn't end up getting to the con until 1:30. that's a 1.5 hour trip that took 6 hours. i'd be PISSED. steve and co. left around... 9ish? and they took the long way (without traffic, maybe a 2 or so hour drive?) and it took them 3 hours because there was an accident there, too. but that's WAY better than 6 hours. but i am SO glad i took the train. only 2 hours and i didn't have to be stressed out during the drive or finding parking or driving down those stupid one-way streets in SD. woohoo!

anyway, the train got there after 7, so i couldn't pick up my badge. boo. steve came to the station to pick me up and we walked to the hotel (quick maaaaybe 10 min walk) and we dropped my stuff off, we went to the food court at horton plaza to grab a bite and meet everyone else. i think all i did was drink on thursday night. haha!

FRIDAY

i wanted to go to ralph's to pick up a sandwich and i had to get registered, so i sent steve to stand in line. while i was (speed)walking to the con by myself, some dudes totally whistled at me. haha! i laughed. oddly enough, they were pretty normal looking dudes. they weren't all nerded out. woohoo! i still got it! sort of. anyway, moving on.

it was already a zoo. soooo many people there. the first panel i went to go see was Watchmen. seriously? Watchmen looks so awesome, i don't even know what to tell you. they showed us some extra footage and i don't know how i'm going to wait until march 6 to watch it. (coincidentally, the watchmen release date is also steve's 40th birthday. that is ALL he wants to do for his birthday. haha!) i literally got chills watching the extra footage. anyway, not only did the footage look amazing, but all the actors in the Watchmen showed up to promote the film.

after that panel was done, we decided that we were going to get into joss whedon's panel with the actors of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. (if you haven't watched that yet, DO it. it's awesome.) anyway, for those of you who have never been to a con, joss whedon's panels are pretty hard to get into just because he is SO popular. there is usually a looong line and sometimes you don't even get in. soooo... steve and i snuck in. haha! we were able to get in without anyone noticing. phew. steve is so slick, i swear. hehe. i think it's because he just looks like he's not doing anything wrong. i always look guilty. hehe.

anyway, after we were in, i stood against the wall to charge steve's camera and after a few minutes of standing there, neil patrick harris walked RIGHT BY ME. i could've reached out and touched him... well, except for the security around him. haha. i seriously had a mini-heart attack.

the panel was awesome. nathan fillion, felicia day, NPH and the other guy (whose name escapes me) were all there along with joss and the writers. it was a great panel. joss definitely has one of the more entertaining panels around. and it was a lot of fun. and they were all funny. nathan fillion is such a ham. i love him. no really. i love him.

so after that, i ended up walking the floor... picked up a bunch of cute stuff. i spent a bunch of money. heh. OH! and i ran into patrick wilson on the floor. (well, he was surrounded by security.) he is a seriously good-looking man. *meow* hehe. oh, and they were having a Watchmen signing or something and jeffrey dean morgan was standing up waving and we locked eyes and he pointed at me. haha! i looked around as if to say, "are you looking at me?" and then i looked back at him and he nodded and pointed again. haha! so i waved. i didn't know know what else to do. haha. it was a total teeny bopper moment.

and at some point in the day (wait. i'm not sure if it was friday or saturday. might've been saturday. the days are running together.) i saw joe mcqueen. he is in the documentary Confessions of a Superhero. (btw, that is an awesome documentary. you should watch it.) i talked to him for a bit and he was really sweet. :)

after that was just dinner and more drinks. hehe. then we went to go watch the World's Worst Cartoons. no, seriously. they literally ARE the world's worst cartoons. they weren't purposely made bad. they are old and there was no budget. so yeah. they're just bad. and funny. especially when you're drinking. heh.

SATURDAY

saturday was a heavier panel day for me (since friday i only went to two)... the line to get into the Heroes panel was INSANE. get this... people started lining up THE NIGHT BEFORE. that's 12 hours of sitting out on concrete. people are nuts. the line snaked back and forth and then like a mile back. yeah. i know. it was crazy. we thought about not going in to that panel. but steve thought we'd get in (Hall H fits like, 6500 people or something) so he just went ahead and got in line. our friend gave up and went to a different panel. and i went to go get my SWEET SWEET Watchmen shirt (exclusive for the con)... and i walked on the floor... got myself a super cute belt... and i made an asshole of myself by singing "happy birthday" to Astroboy so i could get a big ass bag. (if you've never been to a con, this probably doesn't make a whole lotta sense. hehe.) i saw lena headey in person. when you see her in movies or tv, she is a pretty woman. but in person? she's BEAUTIFUL. seriously? she is like, one of the top 10 most beautiful people i've ever seen.

and then steve called me and he's like, "the line's starting to move. call [our friend] and you guys get over here." so i start RUNNING off the floor and i call her and tell her to GET OVER HERE. so she starts running and we got there RIGHT in time to get into Hall H. dude, we were so elated. it was awesome. hehe.

and it was SO worth it because they showed us the entire first episode of season 3. YOU GUYS, IT'S SO GOOD. i was kinda starting to lose interest in Heroes during the second season... i just didn't think it was that good and i thought they were introducing too many new characters. but... man. this episode has renewed my faith in them. hehe. it was REALLY good (i'm sure it's up on youtube somewhere)... and yeah. it was just awesome. i didn't get any pics because the Hall was so packed that we weren't at a good angle for picture taking. but everyone was there and it ruled.

OH. during the Q&A portion of it, this little kid gets up to tell zachary quinto (Sylar) how awesome he is so he's like, "SILO, I JUST WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!" hehehe. that "silo" seriously made EVERYONE laugh. it was SO cute.

after Heroes was LOST. we stayed until the Q&A portion. i wish we stayed a little bit longer because apparently, matthew fox showed up. GAH. i love him.

we ran to get into line to see the Dollhouse panel. (another joss whedon panel) it was a long, long line. steve went to check out the sitch and what happens? he sneaks in again. and leaves me and [our friend] to fend for ourselves. haha. it was okay cuz we got in, but that place was PACKED. whether we made it in or not, i would've been okay. i would've liked to see the Dollhouse panel, but if i missed it, i didn't really care cuz i was REALLY wanting to see the Battlestar Galactica panel.

anyway, the Dollhouse panel didn't disappoint. i missed the show's trailer, but i'm interested in watching it when it comes out. eliza dushku is a little spitfire. hehe. she's so cute and funny. and tahmoh penikett (helo on BSG) was there. he was looking a little clammy and pale. i thought he was going to pass out... oddly enough, he didn't show up for the BSG panel even though it was RIGHT after the Dollhouse panel.

BSG had tricia helfer (six), katee sackhoff (starbuck), jamie bamber (apollo), james callis (baltar), michael trucco (anders) and ronald d. moore and david eick (executive producers) were there. i was just happy to be in there. seriously. i thought i wasn't going to make it to any of the panels and i got into them all. i was stoked.

on the way down to check out the panel for the new Pixar, i saw felicia day (dr horrible) so that was cool. so, the new Pixar called Up is really cute. they showed some footage and it looks pretty amazing, as well. i'm looking forward to that one.

and the floor was so crazy that i couldn't get a picture of the enormous Castle Grayskull on the floor, but i'm sure if you really want to see it, someone will have a picture of the Mattel booth online. sometime during this time, i got to see LE and her boyfriend... it was just for a few minutes. and turns out that she and i bought the exact same super cute belt for ourselves. hehehe. i gave them the astroboy bag i got (he's a big fan, i'm not) so yeah... that was about it. then it was time for us to separate and keep on doing stuff. good lord, we were busy. hehe.

after the floor, we went back to the big hall to see the Sony panel. they showed a trailer of Quarantine, which kind of scared me. heh. i probably won't watch it... although, jennifer carpenter (who plays Dexter's sister in ... Dexter. heh.) is in the movie. and i really like her. we'll see. that movie looked scary. what? i'm kind of a wuss. the 3rd installment of Underworld (which is supposed to be a prequel) looks like a whole lotta SUCK, but i'll probably still watch it. haha! and then it was Pineapple Express. i think it's gonna be pretty funny. i mean, it's a buddy-action-comedy-weed flick. how can it NOT be funny????

by then it was about 7. we went back to the food court at horton plaza to grab a bite. i had one of my worst ideas ever. i had mongolian bbq... and then followed it up with chili cheese fries... mmm, salty dessert. hehe. oh! and i saw jon heder. he just picked up some food and was looking for a place to sit and went upstairs to the second floor seating. hehe. it was funny cuz he was slowly walking by looking around and i was like, "dude! he looks JUST like jon heder! weird!) and then i caught a glimpse of his badge and it read "jon heder." hehe. i was like, "OH! it IS him!" hehe.

after that, i was just TIRED. went back to the hotel to relax a bit. we must've walked at least 10 miles each day (steve's friend had a pedometer and it told him that he had walked 11 miles on saturday) and yeah. well, that was mostly it. sunday we just woke up, had breakfast and came home. this year i saw so many more celebs and stuff in person. usually i don't run into anyone. so it was interesting. i usually don't give a crap, but during the con, i turn into this crazy teeny bopper. hehe.

i was happy to see mia, she was happy to see me and that was that. hehe. we went to souplantation last night and mia and i ate a ton of food. and dude, can anyone tell me why it took me like, 3 weeks to lose 6 lbs, but only 3 days to gain 2.5lbs BACK?! jeez.

They said that they were expecting 175,000 people at Comic Con this
year and this morning seemed to defy that number. It was busy, but not
the crush that I remember it being two years ago. I have no memory of
last year so I don't know if it was busy or not. We arrived after doors
open and went to the Sherrilyn Kenyon booth so that I could pick up two
more of her Comic Con copy of Seize the Night for mooching. I know
they'll go fast. Sherri's books generally do. After that we walked down
to where the Browncoats were looking for Guild t-shirts, but they
didn't have any. We walked to some comic book booths then and I got
another Comic Con Special Issue Angel: After the Fall #10
and the set of 4 Echo comics that I had wanted to get. Before heading up to Ballroom 20.

I am not a fan of Futurama and to be
honest, I don't even think it is a real show. I did sit through the
panel though as if I were a fan. I promise you that I did not like it.
It was followed by The Simpsons panel, which I didn't mind but still
did not care about. I read comics during some of Matt Groening's
diatribe about the 19th Season. I still find The Simpsons funny, but I
can't say my life is incomplete not having seen an episode in 5 years.
The room was packed though so there are some who can't say that. The
kids asking questions that the panel couldn't answer was entertaining
though. Then there was the most painful Q&A of all of Comic Con,
Dean Koontz. I am not taking anything away from this man's authorship.
Not saying that he doesn't have writing chops. But this man is the
driest, most boring, pedantic motherfucker going. His antidotes might
have been funny on paper but his personality in person just conveys
nothing of his alleged brilliance. It was his first time at Comic Con
and I have to hope he doesn't come back.
Here you may be asking why I was near torturing myself and that becomes
apparent when I tell you about the next panel. I love me some Joss.
Enough to sit in Ballroom 20 for 3 hours just to see him. Well there
was the BSG incentive too... but I wanted to see Joss and Tahmoh and I
wasn't dissappointed. Well I take that back because Eliza Dushku still
showed up, so maybe I could have been a little disappointed even with
Joss and Tahmoh still there. But I wasn't. And if I were honest she had
good in person personality even if she can't act at all. Anyway...
about the panel. It was so good seeing Tahmoh Penikett. I am such a
huge Helo fan and to see him in this type of venue is just so awesome.
The only way it could have gotten better would have been had I met him.
And he and Eliza seemed to really have gotten along. Joss said that he
was a huge fan of his too and that he was excited to have him on
Dollhouse. Tahmoh went on to explain the phone call he got with his
agent telling him Joss wanted to talk to him and it was pretty funny.
He thought Joss wanted to tell him he did something on BSG wrong. Joss
claims that he's got the concepts and Tahmoh has the forearms. A great
moment of this panel was some fan asking Joss about 'how does his
process differ across different medias' and then he tacked on to Tahmoh
'does Eliza's spine glow'. And Eliza is just clueless and everyone is
laughing. Tahmoh says that he doesn't know. Joss tacks on 'yet'. And
Eliza is getting more confused by the moment. Joss claims that he
forgot his question. He starts answering and stops and gives the
analogy of 'coming on after the Stones with a banjo. Hey guys like me
now?' Meanwhile Tahmoh leans over and is whispering in Eliza's ear
explaining and you just watch her expression change and she ends up
with this complete 'oh' face. It was hilarious. I'm still not overly
excited about Dollhouse but I will watch it because Joss promised me
that he wrote scenes for Tahmoh where he's shirtless. I have two videos of this but I will have to upload them elsewhere and post them here tomorrow or Monday.

Directly after Dollhouse was the Battlestar Galactica panel and I was very excited for it. It's a bit bittersweet knowing that there will never be another one. This was probably one of the final cast appearances that they will ever make. Some somber stuff. I also got video of this panel and again, will have to post it later. The panel consisted of David Eick, Ronald D. Moore, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Katee Sackhoff, Michael Trucco, Jamie Bamber and Tahmoh Penikett. The moderator was Kevin Smith, who swore like a sailor but is a big fan. I was excited for seeing Tahmoh again and Jamie and Katee. Tricia didn't look that hott to me but Katee was really pretty with unbelievable cleavage. As for spoilers. They did let slip that the end is a real end and James equated it to Apocalypse Now. He and Tricia said that Six and Gaius fight together in the end. There were some funny parts. Katee saying Tahmoh was accused of looking like a girl in one of the earlier shooting scenes. He denies it but she kept making the moue that she claims he made. Jamie was pretty quiet. He didn't talk half as much as I wish he had. Michael Trucco, who is known on set as Trucco was talking about being a cylon and how he was surprised because he didn't even think the producers knew his name. Although he also claims they could have thought his name was Steve. They claim it was a dart throw that determined it was him. One of the funnier comments was when Kevin Smith called Starbuck a role model. I think this is what I have video of so I won't spoil it but she babbled for a while about it. The final cylon is someone we met already and a guy I went to dinner with tonight, his name is Jeff, has a theory that it will be Billy.
The Chuck panel was after BSG and to be honest, I find this show a real snoozer. But I am a big Adam Baldwin fan and for that alone I stood there and took it like a man. I must admit though I find Zachary Levi one ugly, annoying fucker. I will not watch Chuck and this panel reinforced that.

The other night, Wednesday to be exact, I watched The Fringe pilot and I really liked it so I wanted to see the panel. It was a slew of writers/creators including JJ Abrams, Josh Jackson, John Noble and Anna Torv. I forget why I hate promo panels and this panel reminded me. It's because no one cares about the actors it's all about the creators and in this case a ton of Star Trek questions ensued. I was a bit disappointed. I wanted to hear more of where the actors wanted to go with this show. I wanted to know how they planned to tackle the challenge of portraying these characters who are all at odds with one another but have to act as a unit. But no. I had to listen to the worlds worst moderator fire ridiculous questions at them. Boooo.

From there we made our way to the Sails Pavilion to get our Guild DVD signed by the cast. That was quick and painless. Felicia Day did remember us. That was nice. The whole cast was pretty harmless. So then we went to the Exhibit Hall and we got me... wait I forget to mention that some really nice, stranger gave me a Twilight poster today. She rocked. Then I went down to the booth and got two more. I also got more of the small ones. I am a glutton. Then we bought me a dress. This evening D and I went out with Alex and Jennica for dinner. I think the zoo is the plan for tomorrow. It's now really close to being tomorrow.

Lets start with a couple of notes. A lot of attendees and alt media folks are talking about "the way comic con was". Many of these folks use the success of Spiderman and X-Men as movies as a turning point that has brought the Convention down to a baser, less pure form. I've only been attending for 4 years, well after these things have been changed. I don't know what it was like to come with a minimum amount of Hollywood interference. The thing I find most ironic about the Con is that the Comic panels are the least attended and mostly relegated to smaller rooms that most of the attendees couldn't find if they wanted.

However, I don't feel like the Convention is overtly harmed by the Hollywood Marketing machine as much as people would think. Hollywood is terribly insular and exclusive. We plebian fans of the material are not part of their club. I'll never be invited to the Sony or Universal parties, I'm in there. What I will get is cool footage of the Wolverine movie, presented by a decently honest and sincere Hugh Jackman. I'll get to attend panels with my favorite Sci-Fi and Fantasy TV shows (except Legends of the Seeker, screw you room 6B line). I'll get to see the fans do their best to imitate their favorite characters (could do with a few less dumpy looking Poison Ivys). The specticle and excitement is all in the hands of those who attend. Even the annoying and crazed Twilight fans, most of whom hit and run Hall H on Thursday, were there to create a buzz and enjoy their favorite thing. There is nothing Hollywood can do to dilute that. The big stars will continue to come and do their panels and go to ritzy parties... inhabited by other big stars. It's the way the world works, but I'll never know about. I'll just see the exciting previews for movies and tv that is made possible by the excitement of nearly 200,000 people that swarm over downtown San Diego for 4 days every summer. I don't need to know Craig Austin or Alan Moore to be a fan of comic and sci fi literature in all forms. As long as someone loves something, big business will be there to cash in. It's not really a bad thing to have someone throw some big dollars behind these projects, and I think they're learning that when they treat comics with respect, the fans will deliver in the millions.

On to the day...

C and I woke up around 7:30 after a pretty restful night sleep. It was really good to attack the day feeling refreshed. We took a leisurely morning and pedicabbed over to the center. Ultimately, I found a regular cab would have been less... but our cab driver might not have detailed his relationship with a cokehead. A win for personality in the pedicab department.

We did a little more shopping, and then we hit ballroom 20 for the day...

Panel 1: Futurama

This was a decent panel, but I really don't care much for Futurama. The cast members there were all fun and entertaining, and the crowd ate it up. Katy Segal has aged so gracefully, she's more striking now than she was in her younger days. Billy West is always a riot, 1000 voices and no off switch. Ultimately, I felt out of place because I don't care much about Futurama.

Panel 2: Simpsons

There was a (probably fake) preview for Treehouse of Terror and then a panel. I only half paid attenion because I don't watch the Simpons. They don't sound like they plan to do another movie, but they plan to do the show until no one watches it.

Panel 3: Dean Koontz

I wish I could have slept through this. The man is a good writer, but a terrible orator. This was the longest hour of my life.

Panel 4: Dollhouse

Joss Whedon and Tahmoh Penniket were AWESOME. Eliza has a lot of personality when she's not acting, but she is a dud on camera. Notes:

Joss has a bromance with Tahmoh

Dollhouse hasn't been written much yet.

C: "Eliza wants a Nathan Tahmoh sandwich. Me too."

Tahmoh is excited about doing MMA. (no one in the crowd knew what they were talking about)

Does Eliza's spine glow? Tahmoh says I don't know. Joss says yet. Eliza had to have Tahmoh explain it. She made an oh face.

The dollhouse pilot reshoot was a decision by Joss and the network together.

No Dollhouse comics

It'll never make it. Tim Minear is attached.

This was one of my favorite panels of the day. We've decided that there should be a video blog (sing-a-long blog optional) with Joss Whedon. Once a week he just talks for 30-60 minutes. It would be HUGE! I'm sure he doesn't have time, but I feel he owes it to us to make time.

Panel 5: BSG

It's no secret that one of my favorite shows ever is Battlestar Galactica, I have to thank Alex for getting me hooked. The panel today was AMAZING. The cast has been together for a long time and they're like a big family. Everyone has a great sense of humor and they weren't shy about talking about everything that has come before. Kevin Smith was the moderator, and he was spewing filth from the second he opened his mouth. He filled his time with handjob jokes and asking people about fucking. It was pretty hilarious. The panel consisted of: David Eick, Ronald D Moore, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Katee Sackoff, Michael Trucco, Jamie Bamber (unannounced previously) and half way through Tahmoh came back in. There were a lot of great discussions. James Callis discussed the contrast of a holy man who also happens to be a degenerate sex maniac. Katee Sackoff was flustered and mumble mouthed. She had a great shirt that made her boobs really pop, and she did some great impersonations of Helo shooting a gun. Apparently, during their "Mexican standoff" Tahmoh was swinging his guns around rather effiminately and making faces like a Charlies Angel. I want to watch that episode now and see how accurate this impersonation is. There was little to be spoiled for in the new season, as they're pretty lipped about such things. It was revealed that in the last scene filmed there was a lot of gun fire from almost every single character it appears.

Panel 6: Chuck

Adam Baldwin was a hit, but the rest of the cast fell mostly flat for me. I really liked the guy who plays Captain Awesome. He was pretty awesome.

Panel 7: Fringe

This was pretty disappointing... here are a few things:

1. Everyone expects this to become an extension of Lost. JJ Abrams expects this to stand more on its own, it sounded more of an X Files structure. There will be a lot of stand alone episodes that are primarily character driven and then things that will trace through the whole series mixed in for the geeks.

2. Josh Jackson will never live down Pacey Whitter, and now I know why he kept his mouth shut for most of the panel.

3. The rest of the cast was pretty much silent, it might have been their shyness at being Australian or the fact that C and I were probably the only folks who had seen the pilot.

4. I didn't really enjoy the rest of the panel, it was a bit lackluster since most people didn't know much about the show yet.

5. That said, I liked the pilot, especially the last two thirds of it.

After that, C and I walked pretty much straight to the Guild signing booth and got everyone's signatures. Felicia Day was just as sweet as yesterday and I definitely approve of her and her partners in crime. Our DVD is now signed by the entire crew, all of whom I think should be destined for great things.

Finally, we finished the Con with a pass through the exhibit floor one more time. We bought C a dress to match her two shirts from the nice Asian lady and got her some more Twilight posters. Summit was worn down yesterday and today, they started giving away swag instead of trying to make people spin their silly wheel.

We made a quick dash back to the hotel to drop off our loads and went to dinner with Alex and his friends. We've met his friend Jeff before, 2 years ago, and we met his wife and her sister. They were nice and so was dinner. Unsuprisingly, Alex had not told C and I that yesterday was Jenn's birthday.

Now, we are back in the hotel. We'll be getting up at 7:30 again tomorrow to go to the Zoo. I'm excited, as I love the animals.

that put out by the bus this morning and usually the very idea of the bus gives me the fits.

We got to the convention center before they opened the doors and only had a little wait. Our plan was to hit the Exhibit Hall. I wanted to go by the Sherrilyn Kenyon booth and we wanted to get to look around a little. Unfortunately, Sherri had to set times for autographs, so she wasn't in her booth when we stopped by. But we got a special edition version of Sieze the Night and a tote bag that says 'When it absolutely, positively must be destroyed overnight.' It's pretty roomy too. Then I went back to the Summit booth and they were handing out swag and I got an 11"X17" Twilight poster. I had D grab one too and then I went back for another. Hey, I didn't win a large one so of course I'm greedy. I have 6 or 7 of the Entertainment Weekly issues with Rob and Kris on the cover now. I also have a few of the trading card sets. It's like I hit Twilight swag pay dirt or something. Then D and I went shopping. We bought a special Comic Con Angel: After the Fall, #10 that is autographed. Then we went to the SG booth. I got a little something for Nielle, see the video above. I bought their

special edition Hack/Slash comic and Sash signed it for me. I stopped at this bookstore booth and got an autographed copy of From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris. Her books are the ones that True Blood is being based from. From there we went to the California Browncoats booth and there we went a little wonky. I got a red Captain Hammer tee. They were out of Dr. Horrible ones. I will have to order one online later. D got a really nice gray Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog t-shirt and then we got The Guild on DVD. They had a limited edition Serenity: Better Days comic #1. We spent a lot of money there which is what I remember doing the year Serenity came out too. As we were walking in search of a booth I badly wanted to visit, we walked right by Felicia Day. So we turned around and went after her. She's small and fast but we were determined. She was crazy nice and really pretty. After we asked for a photo with her she asked for one with us. She gave us info on autograph signings for tomorrow and she gave me a Guild bookmark and information on a project called The Legend of Neil that Sandeep Parikh is working on. She apparently is in one of the episodes. As if that isn't enough excitement, I bought pretty oriental blouses too. I'm sure there is some fancy name for them but I am Asian-idiotic and I don't know it.

Joss is my daddy. I love the man like he is some god and when no one is around and I'm in the privacy of my own home, I even pray to him. The panel with him, Jed Whedon, Zach Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion and Simon Helberg was in Ballroom 20 and I don't even know if that room was big enough for it. It was pretty informal and very, very funny. A lot of fans bringing up the fact that Joss kills so many of his beloved characters. He took it on the chin and admitted that he likes killing them. His brothers were kind of quiet characters. They did show a certain flair for the jesting, I just think it runs in the family. Nathan Fillion was as campy and disruptive as ever. I think it's just his nature to command attention. He did make the comment 'that the hammer is his penis' and then went on to compound that with saying 'it's actually shaped like a little hammer. I mean little for a hammer.' Joss called him the 'smarmiest motherfucker [he's] ever met'. Felicia made the room crack up when she said she was 'twittering under the table'. NPH was a whole lot of fun and at one point on prompting from Nathan and a fans comment, referred to the time of Doogie Howser as 'the heroin years'. I loved the panel. D thinks it was the best panel of Comic Con so far and I'm inclined to say that it tied the Twilight one. Joss's was loads funnier for obvious reasons. They are all goobers so of course that is the case.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's autograph signing started at 3PM so we got in line.
There were about 20 people in front of us and another 20 behind, I was
surprised by the turn out. I had a scare listening to the woman ahead of me that said she was only signing one thing. Learn me to never listen to strangers. She signed my Dark-Hunter Companion and both of my Lords of Avalon #1 comics. She even commented on how I had the variant and she was scared she was going to ruin it when it couldn't be replaced. I did get her to dish some about Acheron. She said there are some parts with Valerius, which makes me ungodly happy. Urian is in it and he will show up in Stryker's story, One Silent Night. She said that because of who Ash is everyone is in his book. I get to see Sherri again on 8 August at Dark Delicacies in Burbank and that is after Acheron comes out so I will get to call her on her facts. I am a little sad because I wanted to ask about Fang and Aimee but I got distracted and lost it. She was a sweetheart though and hugged both Heather and I. I was worried before I met her... everyone is measured by the Stephenie Meyer stick now and it's not too hard to impress me since she was such a dud. I loved Sherri though.

Yesterday at the True Blood panel we got tickets for some swag, but the line to get in the Fulfillment Room last night was a half a mile long. So we didn't get our goody bags until today and I was so so pleased. I got 2 T-shirt one that says 'Real Blood is for Suckers' and the other says 'Friends Don't Let Friends Drink Friends'. Also in the bag was a comic. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but I hope it will be a preview of the feel of the show. Lastly, we got the first Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Until Dark. Since D and I both got a bag I have two copies. I plan to start reading it tonight. It was by far the most fortuitous swag package we got this weekend. I am not discounting my lil' Twilight poster, but I like the True Blood stuff a whole lot. Maybe if I got one of those big Twilight posters, I might feel differently.

D and I had to switch all of our plans for tomorrow... I will now, unhappily sit through the Dollhouse panel and miss Pushing Daisies. But we are hoping to get to Felicia Day's signing after the Fringe Panel. Oh Fringe--Josh Jackson... I am so excited for this show. Note to self: Download pilot ASAP. I must watch it again.

While I was proof reading this and doing my tags fireworks started over the bay and we were watching them from our balcony. It's a sign that tomorrow will be okay. I'll enjoy myself despite my misgivings. The fireworks fairy has sent a sign.

Comic con is incredible. It really is. There is an air of unreality to much of it. C and I did the sensible thing and rested up and moseyed in a bit late (right before the doors opened). This was our time to explore the floor, which was not as crowded as I expected. We kicked around and spent plenty of cash, here are some things:

Comics - some exclusive angel comics, one signed by Joss

Two Shirts - Asian style, very beautiful for C.

Browncoats - two tshirts and a guild dvd

We also went by Sherllyn Kenyon's booth and got the info on the signing. She had tote bags and books to give away, so we took them. There was also mini Twilight posters available at the booth.

After leaving the browncoats booth, we walking through the hall and I saw Ms Felicia Day!!! She is the lead actress in Dr Horrible, and also does her own internet show called "The Guild". She is also my current TV crush. C had us dash back and accost her, and she was kind enough to listen to us gush at her and pose for a photo. It was very exciting, we plan to go and get the DVD signed tomorrow.

After the floor, we worked our way up to the upper floors and ballroom 20. Joss was at 1:30, so naturally we were there 2 hours early. We got a good seat with a clear view of the Jumbotron. We didn't think it was wise to fight for the front of the panel, because we might have lost the prime location we had. After we settled in, we sat through multiple Stargate panels. I have nothing against stargate, and Jewel Staite is ADORABLE... but I'm not a fan of the show. On the flip side, the panelists were really charming and funny.

So, Joss came on with the writers and cast of "Dr Horrible" . It was THE BEST! I loved it from end to end. NPH and Nathan Fillion were the most outgoing and funny, while Joss was his usual self-depricating best. There was talk of more episodes to come, the Soundtrack coming out in a few weeks and the same with the DVD. They are going to feature user submissions for the Evil League of Evil. Here are some highlights gleaned from my twitter feed:

Heather: "Nathan Fillion and NPH = hilarity. Already."

David "Joss: "how do you know I didn't have one?!""

David: Felicia Day is "twittering" (she kept her hands on the table for the rest of the panel)

Heather: Some woman called NPH 'Doogie'. Nathan: she's referring to a show you did a long time ago, in a hospital. NPH: oh the heroin years!

Christal: NPH as a chipmunk and the heroin years.

David: Nathan Fillion has a hammer shaped penis.

Heather: Nathan, about his penis: it's actually shaped like a little hammer. I mean little for a hammer.

David: Parenting advice from Nathan Fillion

Heather: Joss about Nathan: aside from being just a great, decent person, this is the smarmiest motherfucker on the planet.

David: Thrice uttered the f word

None of that really makes any sense without context, but be assured... it's still funny.

After the panel, we went to the autograph area to meet Sherillyn Kenyon. She was super nice to C and Heather, chatting with them while keeping things going. She signed all the books and comics, posed for a picture and sent them off with a hug.

C and I then killed time while trying to make plans to go see Dr Horrible at the con tonight. It was INSANE when we got to the line. It was closed, because the line was overloaded. However, no one had a contingency plan. C and I made the judgement call to bail and be really rested for tomorrow. Of course, as I was writing this entry Felicia Day updated her twitter that they were opening up more screening rooms. I still think coming back here was the best, but it's a bit disappointing. We're going to munch some food and get a decent nights sleep.

And that is day 2. I'm sure I missed a few things, but I am wrapping this up while listening to C's running commentary on herself while writing her own entry on the day.

OK the line wasn't that long but it was pretty long.

We
left San Luis yesterday at noon hoping to get in town to make a 6:00
showing of the pilot for new J.J. Abrams show "Fringe" but traffic did
not allow and we arrived downtown at 6:01 local time and then had to
look for parking.

You know, when there are emergencies they have
anti-gouging laws, gas, milk, water...other stuff all stays the same
price. That should apply for parking as well. Lots that would normally
run "$3 all day" according to the signs were charging $10 for parking
on Wednesday night and $15 for parking on Thursday, Friday, Saturday
and Sunday.

Thinking we might make the 7:30 screening of the
pilot we walked hard the three blocks to the convention center and we
we got to the front we were met by a group of men and women wearing
badges shouting that everyone who still needs their passes has to go to
the end of the line.

So we walked, and we walked, and kept on walking.

The
line snaked around the grassy area in front of the convention center,
then around the building and down to almost the very end of the
building on the other side were we came in from. The people who were in
front of us in line checked their watches and said that we walked 14
minutes from the front to the back of the line.
When we finally got
to the end people were raising their arms in triumph like they had one
a contest of "see who can queue the longest".

We waited, hardly
moving for almost half an hour then suddenly the line was moving, we
were snaking around where all those people had been standing and not
moving before. And we walked, and walked, and walked, when we finally
got inside the convention center there were men with badges shouting at
us to go up the escalators and keep on going. And we walked a little
bit more until finally coming into huge hall where they gave us our
badges, lanyards, a program and a bag of goodies (Magic the Gathering
cards! Now I can play the game I used to make fun of kids for playing!
Oh Joy!).

The time was 7:35, five minutes after the screening
was set to start. There was a big sign pointing us in the direction of
the hall it was being held in so we chanced it and went it.

Success!

The
doors were open, people were going in. We sat down and and noticed that
the hall was only about 1/3 full and it stayed that way throughout the
screening.

The show that we were so hot to see was pretty OK. It
started off like a good episode of the X-Files but kinda lagged in the
middle then wrapped up like a good episode of the X-Files. In the
middle I was kind of bored though. But considering that it was the
pilot episode and they had to introduce all the characters and the Big
Idea for the show I'm willing to look past that boredom for now.

Today is the first full day of The Con and we are staying away, no panels that we can't live without seeing.
Instead we are going shopping, having lunch with our old friends and going to see The Dark Knight in IMAX this afternoon!

Friday: Joss Whedon. Buffy Season 8 and Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog, among other other awesome things.

Then shortly after revealing the last act take it offline and offer it on iTunes to buy. This is the sort of plan that should annoy me. Fortunately for Joss Whedon Dr. Horrible is a masterpiece.

It's the story of a minor criminal and his desire to rule the world so that he can get the girl of his dreams. Oh, and it's a musical. The songs are catchy and funny, the acting is perfect, the story is genius. I could watch it again and again and again.

Unfortunately it's not yet available on iTunes UK, and the DVD isn't out yet, and the soundtrack CD isn't out yet.
So after having a fabulous week, I crashed and spent two horrible days
in bed. I even slept until 5:30 yesterday afternoon. So I took the new
meds last night to make sure I'd sleep and I woke up today with joint
aches like I'm crippled or something. Again, horrible. Not even Dr.
Horrible, just regular horrible. I feel so off and I really hate it and
I kind of hate myself for feeling it. I really wish that being bipolar
didn't mean that the ups and downs were so guaranteed. I'd really like
to just feel the elevation. The depressed cycle is not even a little
fun. Lying all day in bed feels a whole lot like lying in a coffin. I
don't want my life to be over yet. So, yeah--tons to share in therapy
tomorrow. If I'm not so incapacitated that I can't go.

The other day I went to work with David he works in Santa Monica in the
MTV Networks location and around the corner from it is Summit
Entertainment. The fangirl in me was all it excited. I had to go by
it. I had the typical fangirl delusion that I would see Rob Pattinson in front of the building standing around just waiting to meet an overzealous fan. Yeah, that did not happen. I know your surprised that my very unlikely fantasy didn't pan out. That kind of thing happens to obsessed fangirls every day. It will be enough that I will see him at Comic Con. It will have to be enough since I just don't have the kind of life that would put me in his path. How much of a chance do I have when I'm depressed and in bed?

really carried on his ability to act demented. I hope it was an act. Christian Bale was just okay in my opinion. I hate the voice he does when he speaks as Batman. It's grating and some of the time I didn't even understand him. I can say this movie was diminished by the lack of shirtless Christian Bale but I guess you have the first movie for that. Gary Oldman was solid. Maggie Gyllenhaal was my biggest disappointment. She wasn't that cute girl next door love interest that she was supposed to be. She look haggard and she bothered me. I consider myself a Maggie Gyllenhaal fan but she ruined scenes for me and that was really a shame. I thought she would blow it away. She didn't. Overall, it wasn't the best movie I've seen this summer but it was one of the better ones. RIP Heath though. The had some of the costumes in the lobby and I took some pictures of them.

On Thursday the new Twilight Trailer was unveiled and it shows more scene wise then the first one. But I still feel like it's geared for the fandom and that just makes me worry about getting new people interested. Of course I do have to say that there is much with the pretty. I love the shot to the left. I think them man looks yummy. There is a touch of something that might start with 's' there. I don't know the word yet but it's there. The other thing is David Strick posted more Twilight photos in his Hollywood Backlot site. These seem way less serious than the first batch. It would seem Rob has his tongue out for the majority of these. I have no problem with this man's tongue.

Friday night was also the third act of Dr. Horrible. I think Act 2 is my favorite and I won't ruin it for anyone by saying what happens in Act 3, but I should have known with Joss. I can't get the songs out of my head and I was happy today when D found a torrent for them. I have to add them to my iPhone now. I know that there are some songs perfect for the bus... like the one where Billy Buddy is singing about evil inside being on the rise. Yes, perfect bus music. I have been watching The Guild too and I really like it. I remember people like that from Moos and Talkers. Did I just date myself? So yeah, I think we are going to try to meet Felicia Day and some of the people from The Guild at Comic Con. D has a little crush on her and that is always cute and entertaining. I mean that. He might also have a crush on Zaboo. I am just looking forward to new episodes. And Felicia Day is really cute so I can't be jealous. Her Twitter can be scene here. She's pretty good with the upkeep.

As for books. I have been devouring Harlequin Blaze books. I have about twenty of them that I ordered from

BookMooch and I have been eating them. I ordered twenty more today. They are really easy, mindless books of fluff and sometimes fluff is all you can do. I do have my favorites. I love this one Author, Stephanie Tyler. Her books are always about Navy SEALs and I really have something for SEALs apparently. The last few books I've read have been by Dawn Atkins. Her books aren't themed, although the last two were about girls from Copper Corners, AZ. I have Breaking Dawn coming out in just two weeks and I finally figured out what Midnight Release Party we are going to for that. Acheron comes out three days later. D said I could order a series of books that I'm dying to read when we get back from Comic Con. The book world is A-Ok. My life will be over when I run out of things to read. Let's hope that day isn't anytime soon.
