Kinda like that Daughtry song "Home." I'm really feelin it right now. Except instead of like in his case he's going home to some woman to fix things and whatever, and in my case I'm going home to my hometown and my parents, to fix things with myself. All the parts I really relate to right now I put in bold. I've been listening to this a lot lately.

I've been kinda sad because I broke up with Donnie. He got all assanine drunk and flipped out, broke into my house, threw shit, was trying to bust into my car, I had to call 911 it was dumb. I know he would never intentionally hurt me, he just got carried away, got too drunk and lost control of himself, but that's a total dealbreaker for me.

I was in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic boyfriend for 3 years and I told my parents and more importantly myself that I would never go through some shit like that again. I warned Donnie, the first time he got drunk enough to kind of have a violent mindframe, that if it happened again we were through, that that was his get out of jail free card. But I'm still very sad about the breakup and the whole ordeal honestly.

I'm so tired of starting over guys, I told my parents that maybe I was destined to be a crazy cat lady and that maybe they'd have to settle for grandkitties instead of grandkids. I want a family more than anything, to be a wife and a mom, to have a family of my own. why does it have to be so damn hard? It seems like everytime I think things are working out for me, it all comes crashing down, seriously what the fuck is the deal here? What am I doing wrong?

So I'm single yet again, sad and lonely. But this time I don't think I'm even interested in trying to date anyone again anytime in the near future, I think I'm just gonna be single for awhile and take some time to get my life together and figure some shit out. I'm also kinda depressed cuz I left some really good friends behind in moberly that I will miss so bad. Some of them I'm sure are reading this ;) You know who you are guys! Love ya! But I'll come back round to mobtown to visit, maybe go party at limits and whatnot.

I'm kinda starting my life over again, but it's difficult, I always seem to have problems, and who knows what my deal is with that, maybe I somehow bring it on myself. But anyway, I'm gonna focus on friends, getting my finances on track, and taking care of me for once instead of worrying so damn much about someone else and trying to feel like I always have to be dating someone. I know I've got some good friends out there that will give me some of the love and support I need to get through all this bs and get back on track. again you know who you are and I love each one of you.

I had an odd thing happen this weekend, tho first, some backstory... recently I put my electric guitar for sale on CraigsList... it's a black Hamer Flying V I bought several years ago, right before my hands went south from injuries at the bakery... after that, I couldn't play without my hands going numb within a few minutes, so that pretty much ended my guitar playing... all this time the guitar has sat on a stand or in the closet, so I figured I'd sell it and get some good out of it, and let somebody have it who would put it to use... finally Saturday someone bought it... the odd thing was tho, earlier in the day I had been cleaning out some things in the closet, and I came across some old pictures, and one of them was of my very first band, back when I was about 12 or so... I had my very first electric guitar back then... I kept the picture out so that I could look at it again later... the odd thing was, after the guy came and picked up the guitar, I went later to the bedroom and my desk in there to find the picture, and it was gone... just vanished... I looked everywhere, on the floor and all over... it was just gone... it just seemed odd, that when I sell my final electric guitar, the only memory I have of my first electric guitar and band vanishes... almost like a chapter of my life ending and just disappearing... it was weird... hopefully I'll find the picture stuck somewhere... but it was weird...

Other than that, it's been a slow weekend, very hot during the day for October... the trees are just beginning to edge into color, and the clear nights have been lovely, with the crescent Moon, Jupiter and Venus lurking around among the treetops to the south and west...

Writing's been a little slow, as my mind has been on other things... but I've still got some new poems to post soon... I had my first submission to the Kenyon Review rejected, but I sent them some more... see what they think of that batch... I've been reading a novel called "Thunder Head" by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child, and watching a surprising amount of House episodes on TV... and I guess that's about all the new news from here...

As we got this new oven last week, we needed a cabinet to put it into. A short search through IKEA's catalog provided the required piece of furniture. We drove to IKEA in Netanya, got the assembly kit, and promptly proceeded to building the cabinet. Everything went fine until the part when we checked to see that everything fits. Well, almost. The bottom drawers didn't close all the way. The drawer would slide neatly into the cabinet, and then hit the fibreboard at the back. There were some 5mm left to go, and it looked wrong. What to do next? Re-reading the instructions and messing with the adjustment screws didn't help. The store was already closed for the weekend. But where's a will there's a way! Opening the British IKEA site promptly yielded the phone number of the store in Wembley, London. One phone call, one transfer, and a technical person in the United Kingdom provides the answer: remove the back. It is not needed for this type of drawers. Thank goodness for globalization.

still recovering from the jet-lag after managing to be up for a straight 30 hours, i have been having a nice time getting situated to the future life here in london. although for a short period of time for the present moment (see above title), i told boBo earlier today whilst shopping for some much needed winter gear (ya know, hats, gloves, the whole kit and kaboodle) that this move feels just right. everything is up in the air. no job, no place to call our own, no idea what exactly we will be doing here. but the inner sensation, the gut, tells me that this is good. it is, as they say in california land, all good.

a House-inspired dribble

so i love House MD. I love that show to pieces.

whatever my current faves are, they become my current alter ego's faves at that time as well. in this case, my character Alabaster now is a big fan of House. and this is about him, watching House, with Sam (who doesn't really like that show, mainly because Al keeps pointing out how much House is like Sam, only with a cool/high paying job, and is super fucking intelligent... unlike sam who watches sports and sits around the house all day lol.)

He hated missing his favorite show on Tuesdays. But the old man and his walks came first. Even though his favorite programmes were re-runs of shows that were hip and new 40 years ago, hell, 50 years ago, he still felt cheated when the old man insisted they take an evening stroll around the neighborhood.
"And that's why man invented TiVo... or whatever the hell it is we've got nowadays."
"It's called a DataBox, Sam."
"Overpriced DVR is what the hell that thing is."
He would always shake his head, pull on his running shoes, and make sure the old man had his cane, or his walker, depending on his day-to-day strength and mood.
But this wasn't Tuesday. This was a Sunday. The only day of the week he managed to get out of walking around the neighborhood, mainly because it was sports night, when Sam would sit for hours on end, and listen to whatever game of the week it was.
But tonight... there was no game. And Al seized the opportunity to control the big screen plasma in the downstairs livingroom, where his programmes were recorded and saved.
"What the hell is this bullshit?" the old man snapped bitterly as he carefully lowered himself onto the couch rather than his recliner.
"It's House, now shuddap. He's 'bout ta have his epiphany."
"His what?"
"Epiphany. He gets one ever episode. If he doesn't, usually means he was wrong or his patient dies. Now shush."
"Just rewind it."
Al poked him sharply in the forarm in annoyance. "I don't bitch about your games, you don't bitch about my programs. That's the rules," he replied, pulling his long legs up and wrapping his arms around them as he watched the medical drama he had seen hundreds of times play out on the screen.
"God... House is so fucking cool..." he said after a few hours, and yet another episode. "He's like... you. But with a working brain."
"Oy! I have a brain!"
"Yeah. But you don't know how to use it," he replied with a snicker.
"What's so great about that guy? So he can see, so what."
"He has a job, despite his addictive and highly psychotic personality. What's your excuse?"
"I had a job. Didn't need one, but I had one."
"Starving artist doesn't count if you starve yourself intentionally." Al laughed, and spoke as Sam opened his mouth. "Drug dealer doesn't count either, because it was illegal to begin with."
"Practice what you preech, Al. You don't have a job either."
"I'm owner of a multinational coorporation with a bookstore, ice cream parlor, and internet cafe on every corner in every major city across the globe. I don't have to work."
"Yet you continue to mooch off my inheritance."
Al grinned as Sam's wrinkled face drew into a frown. The younger-looking man unfolded his body, put his feet on the floor, and put an arm around the old man's shoulders. "You know I only keep you alive for your body. If I wanted your money, I'd have killed you off years ago."
"Gee, thanks for that comforting though," he said sarcastically.
"One more episode, I promise. Then it's sports for the next two months."
"Better fucking be," he muttered as Al settled in for one more episode of his favorite re-run.

So I closed on the house this morning. It was pretty anti-climatic considering everything that went before it. The seller was suppose to be finished with the kitchen changes and whatnot by 9:30a yesterday morning but they weren't until after 6:30p. There was a reason I refused to close yesterday even though that's what the contract had. So yay! House!

And I know you're wondering how I spent my last relatively debt-free night. Answer:

Accomplished!

Making lists helps me accomplish things I have to get finished. Today, aside from the daily make lunch for Chris & I and straighten up the house, I had to withdraw all the money from my WaMu account, close that account entirely, then deposit the money into our Wells Fargo account; then pay rent, mop the floor, go grocery shopping, and go on a walk. I've done everything but go on a walk. I got so many beautiful and delicious vegetables and fruit... Onions, avocado, bananas, a dark leafy salad mix (oops that reminds me, I forgot to get collard greens!), butternut squash, green beans, garlic cloves, cauliflower, zucchinis, and a big 10-pound sack of potatoes. Yum! I also got some stuff for our food storage. At Trader Joe's I loaded up on mangos (&hearts;!), snacks for Chris, and some calcium chewies. I got the chocolate ones and they're pretty good. They're not sticky and impossible to chew like other ones I've tried.

Mopping the floor was um...interesting. I've never mopped before. My parents always swept the kitchen floors or had rugs at the sink and oven so if something fell the rug could be put in the laundry. Anyway, I used dish soap and tried to mop and the floor got very bubbly, which later when Chris came home for lunch, I found out is not supposed to happen. Oops! :)

Keeping a daily checklist, a weekly meal plan, and a monthly budget has helped us a lot, and has helped me get closer to my goal of having "a house of order". Before we would buy a bunch of food all at once, just going down the aisles saying "Ooh, this looks good! That looks good too!" and then end up throwing a lot of it away because it went bad. Sometimes at dinner I wouldn't know what to make or just have a bunch of ingredients that don't go together (what can you do with couscous, frozen corn, and mozarella cheese, anyway?) so 6.30 would come around and we'd still be without dinner, so on a whim we'd change into decent clothes and say "Let's just make tonight Date Night!" Now thanks to all my lists and things we're not as haphazard and wasteful with our time and money. It's nice. I go to the store with everything a list of everything I need for the week and anything that's not on the list isn't bought. I knew what I'd be making every night this week since last Monday. Very nice indeed!

So what's on the menu this week? Tonight I am making a vegetable (cauliflower, green beans, brocolli) casserole. Tomorrow I'm making lentil & basil couscous (recipe here; I've never tried it. Chris suddenly wanted to have couscous on Friday but we didn't have most of the ingredients; btw no V8 for us because that stuff is NASTY). On Wednesday I'm making baked potatoes with vegetables (onion, squash, corn) on the side. Thursday Chris wants to make little pizzas with tortillas as the crust. For Friday I have two things in mind. One is to just have assorted 'finger-foods' with a bunch of fruit and cheese & crackers on the side. The other idea is to make something with the butternut squash I got today. I'm not sure. Saturday I'm making spaghetti and Sunday is reserved as our leftover/TJ's frozen entree/go-eat-dinner-at-Jessica's-dad's-house day.

We've also established a new kitchen rule. As soon as you're finished with a dish or piece of silverwear, wash and rinse it immediately. Our dishes were piling up & getting stinky way too quickly. Too much time was spent washing the mountain of perpetual dirty dishes. I don't know about you but I'd rather spend time with my husband doing something fun. ;)

Whew! I think I am finished babbling on. I'm sure that if anyone actually does care about anything I've written, they probably didn't want so much rambling or so many details. Oh well. I'm a little sleepy so I think I'll go take a nap before I get dinner started.

Bailout Fails

Well, so today was the big day when the House voted on the proposed bailout. And the House failed to support the bailout. Personally, I don’t know if this is good or bad. The market lost about 780 points, the largest single-day point drop in history, but not even in the top 10 drops in terms of percentage drops. If you look at the DJI chart for the past 30 years, its is essentially a straight line up, and I bet most of us would not be able to point out the top 10 drops in the history of the market! So maybe we don’t give Wall Street $700 Billion, and let the market work it self out.

The politics of the failed bailout will be interesting to watch. McCain essentially pulled a political stunt by announcing that he was suspending his campaign and returning to Washington to help push this deal through. So he may see some fallout from this failure of the bailout attempt. The Republicans came out right away and pinned the blame on Pelosi’s apparently partisan speech. The Democrats were a step behind (well, as usual!) and I think they messed things up. Now that they were a step late, the Democrats should have taken the high road, and focused on bipartisanship rather than try to play the blame game. Instead, they came out late, and they started to point fingers, and they looked small.

I just Jon Kyle (R-AZ) speak with Neil Cavuto on Fox. Kyle, in my opinion, took the right tone, and his approach was “what’s happened has happened, now lets work together”. Cavuto asked Kyle what he thought about the partisan speeches by Pelosi, Frank, and the other Democrats. Cavuto failed to mention the partisan speeches by the Republicans a few minutes ago. I realize that complaining about Fox’s blatant right-wing bias is like complaining that water is wet. But it must be nice to have your own full-fledged propaganda TV channel. I can’t wait to see O’Riley and Hannity later today!

He is back again in this week’s episode “Adverse Events”. I like the character a lot and I hope that they will give him a longer story arc so that we can see more of that interaction.

TV: The week ahead

By all rights this should be 'Study: The week ahead' but I don't want to bore you as I am not at the exciting bit yet. I am still at the preliminary background reading stage even though my schedule states that I should be on topic 4 'Antony and Cleopatra. I don't quite understand how I can be behind even before I have officially begun. I fear it could be one of those pesky time paradoxes like in the Terminator. Reading about Tony and Cleo should be a big carrot for me to get my arse into gear as it is the perfect excuse to re-watch Rome, and savour James Purefoy. With regard to the small screen I am not sure what I am more excited about the VP debates (I hear Tina Fey will be subbing) or Mitch Pileggi appearing as the Winchester brother's grandfather in a flashback episode. Oh it's a toughie!

Monday

Heroes - I'll DVR this for the weekend as it really isn't as "sticky" as the first season, and I only keep watching because I have a soft spot for Noah (aka HRG dude)
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - No sophomore slump on the horizon for these terrorists, and who knew that Dean Austin Green could act?
Life - Loved the truncated first season but will need to bank this in the DVR until Alex has caught up

Tuesday

House - It's painful that Wilson has dumped House but makes for great snarky television
NCIS - A classy guilty pleasure, and I totally guessed the twist with last weeks episode. But, I don't know who the spy is working for.
The Mentalist - I didn't think I had capacity for yet another procedural drama but this one is worth dumping Bones for
Fringe - I am committing to Pacey et al with a season pass this week

Wednesday

Pushing Daisies - Despite one of the central characters being a zombie the show does leave you with a warm tingly feeling

Thursday

SUPERNATURAL - All shades of awesome wrapped in an Impala
VP Debates - You just don't know how this will play out. Perhaps Palin has been faking it for the last few weeks to give Biden a false sense of security...

Friday

Life - Another episode for the DVR. Now are NBC trying to engage with a new fan base with two episodes this week or burn through them...

Well?

In response to the last post, since no one guessed, I made laundry soap on Friday after Kayley went home. The original 'recipe' is 16 cups baking soda, 12 cups Borax, and 8 cups grated castille or glycerin soap (the website I got it from says to use 1/8 of a cup per load and should last a family of 4 about a year). I reduced the quantities to 4 cups, 3 cups, and 2 cups since I don't have the right kind of container to hold that much. Oh, and by the way, grating a bar of soap with carpal tunnel is not a fun task. No siree.

Yesterday we went up to the Oakland Temple and did a bunch of sealings. Women's Conference was great. I wasn't planning on going, since it was way in the heck out of my way and I could have watched it at my dad's house or read it in the Ensign, but he said that President Jacobs wanted all the sisters to be together to watch it. I went but on the ride over thought to myself a couple times "Why can't I just read it later? Why do I have to drive an hour to go watch it? I've already driven to and from the Temple today; I'm tired of being in the car!" I'm glad I went since the messages were great (I especially liked Sister Allred's talk) aaand...I saw KIRSTEN there! :) It was nice to catch up in person. And also, I loooved President Uchtdorf's description of his & Harriet's cooking. If you weren't there, read it when the November Ensign comes out. It's pretty funny and describes Chris and I pretty well.

The worst part about Fast Sundays is being in the nursery during snack time, especially when Sister Clark brings baked goods. She has a bunch of recipes that use blended vegetables so they are a little more nutritious (assuming she doesn't use a bunch of sugar). Today she brought in brownies that had blended spinach and carrots in it. Last week she brought muffins with butternut squash and carrots. I couldn't stop eating the muffins and I didn't taste the brownies but she said her husband and sons were scarfing them down yesterday. :)

Blah blah blah... in an hour we're going to the Hillesheims' house so I better start getting ready and shut up.
