So another eager attempt of me to have something to do is being an Editor/Author at Talkplaystation. I've been writing over there since July (around the same time I held my one month sabbatical).

Since owning a Playstation 3 i've seen the potential grow of this console but also saw how a corporation can badly handle certain things. Also that on certain sites the people posting/writing didn't do it properly in my opinion. It was either filled with incorrect information or posted days after it was fort noticed.

So by helping out the guy who runs Talkplaystation I've been able to keep myself busy with something other then just sitting around and thinking about things doing nothing if not outside doing something with friends.

NHL 09

I’m absolutely excited about the up-coming EA Sports game, NHL 09 for the Xbox 360.  Coming out this September, NHL 09 has an exciting new feature called Be A Pro that sounds like it’s going to be exactly what video-game/hockey-video-game fans have wanted for … well, since hockey video games were invented.  Loads of fun and entertainment coming my way!

With the Be A Pro mode you will start out as a top NHL prospect playing in the AHL and will have to work your way up to the NHL.  You’ll be judged on how you perform (stats) and your team/positional play.  You'll have a hockey card to keep track of your progress from your rookie days to the time you make it to the NHL and on into legendary status. LOL.

Here is a trailer that shows a bit of the new Be A Pro mode. You can see the new individual third-person camera angle and a bit of what it will look like to watch the game from the bench (it does look like it might be hard to just sit and watch the game from the bench for parts of the game).

Hands down the EA Sports NHL games turn out to be my favourite game year after year.  I’ve bought and played every version of the game since NHL 95 on my old Sega system.  And played them all for hours and hours (and many, many more hours) every year, but this one looks to be a huge upgrade.  Besides the exciting Be A Pro mode, the game will include these new features:

• more defensive movement
• one-handed dekes
• improved checking, fighting
• improved created play options (they were a bit annoying in NHL 08)
• a simplified 2-button control system that will be good for new-comers to the game (who knows, maybe Sherri will get in on the action this year) - this will also be good for those who dislike the Skill Stick controls that they implemented a couple years ago (see Dave, if you were reading my blog you'd see that I mentioned you in it)
• 3 new leagues: the German DEL, the Czech O2 Extraliga, and the Russian Superliga (which I think is the old name for the Kontinental Hockey League, but I’m not sure about that)
• and some new online modes that sound too good to be true and that I’m not all that interested in

Sounds like months and months of entertainment – I may not need any other game this year. I can’t wait!

I finally saw Juno a couple weeks ago. It was an okay movie except for the fact that they were starting this "romantic" relationship between a 16 year old and the guy that was going to adopt her unborn child. I thought it was hinting at it and I could see it the first time she visited them. I thought that was more than creepy, but there has to be at least some romance in every Hollywood movie right? That had to be the second movie I saw with Jason Bateman in it this summer, the first was Hancock and I thought that movie had a great story.

With the summer coming, I had more time to get back into video games. I wanted to see if I could beat a video game by myself without the help of my brother or my cousins. I did pretty well in Sonic Adventure DX I just can't beat Big's stages... rather, I don't have the patience to do all that fishing for that stupid frog. I think my favorite games are still on the PC but video games are just as fun for me especially the Sonic and Mario games.

I have nothing else to write about... my brain is shut off right now... probably because it's summer.

Just some new stuff I've gotten recently.

"Rhythm Tengoku Gold"! The Rhythm Tengoku game for DS! Yay! It's sooo much fun. I've already unlocked all the games ^.^v

Two DVD's: "Fight Club" and "Snatch". Yes, they're English movies, bought in Japan. But they were on sale! 20% off each! And "Snatch" was only $19 to begin with! Amazing movies. Will definitely watch. And I'll put on the Japanese subtitles for practice >.>

Damn I missed my monthly update! Last update was on April, I didn't post anything on May and June... lol..

So, quick updates:

Games:
I can't wait to get my hands on:

• Diablo 3
• Starcraft 2
• Crysis

Work:
So far so good, especially the pay (thx to outstation visits). But workload is ever increasing and now there is a new project that I am quite pessimistic with its execution... *sigh*

Investments:
Bought and paid in installments a cheap and small apartment (Laguna) to rent it out at ~10% return. I personally think 10% return is quite during these times where stocks are in chaos.

My strategy is to wait for the price to go up and re-check again if the return is still more than 10% or not. If the rent rate stays the same over 5 years but the apartment price goes up, my net return will decrease from 10%; that would be the time to sell the apartment (taking the capital gain profit) and buy a new one with 10% return rate. Of course if both price and rent rate go up in parallel, my return will stay the same and there will be no need to sell the apartment.

My short to medium term goal: To find another cheap property that can give return of 15%.

Stock market is really uninspiring right now. Even worse is my New Zealand dollar deposits. The NZD was weakening so much against Rupiah that the high interest rate is not even worth it anymore. *sigh*

Overall, the past 2 months are okay.. I had fun hanging out friends ( a lot of hanging outs ), but now I'm broke..

Working hard on the Spider Web

Today I built a huge Spider web. It was awesome! Daniel and I split the camp in half. Daniel took one half of the camp and played a Frozen T-shirt Game. While I took the other half and had them go through my giant Spider Web. The kids had fun at both games. It took me a long time to put up the spider web and I so did not want to take it down. But a really cool thing happened. The next camp that was coming in really like the web and asked if they could use it. I was so excited that not only did i not have to take it down, but i was able to bless another camp!

Set up a LARGE Spider web . Have teams go through the webs tying NOT to touch the string. The team with the least amount of touches wins.

Frozen T's ICEBREAKER

For each team you'll need one T- shirt and one plastic storage bag. Place one nicely folded T-shirt in each bag then pour in about 2 cups of water and freeze all of them overnight. If this wasn't done where the event is taking place bring the T-shirt in a cooler filled with ice to keep them frozen. Instruct the teams that they'll be playing an Ice Breaker game. Then hand out the bagged T-shirts to each team. On "Go" the teams will have to get their T-shirts thawed out so that one person from their team can put the T-shirt on. Teams will get creative in their attempts to win. They could run the shirts underwater, put them in the microwave and even pounded the ice out of them. The first team to come back with one person in the T-shirt is the winner.
