Fishing story

One morning, the husband returns the boat to their lakeside cottage after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, puts her feet up, and begins to read her book. The peace and solitude are
magnificent.

Along comes a Fish and Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, 'Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?'

'Reading a book,' she replies, (thinking, 'Isn't that obvious?')

You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her.

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading.'

Yes, but I see you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault,' says the woman.

'But I haven't even touched you,' says the Game Warden.

'That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.'

'Have a nice day ma'am,' and he left.

MORAL:
Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

End of summer Sunday in the country

There isn't very much color in the trees yet, but you can tell that fall is on it's way. When I got home tonight, my hubby and a friend were out fishing, so I picked up the camera and walked down to the lake. I played mostly with zooming in on stuff. I didn't want to get off the road to take any pictures.

It was 6:00 already when I left the house for the lake, so the sun was getting low in the sky. I'm not sure what settings I was using to get the focus on the cosmos.

I did one cake differently at work today, and it really turned out nice. It was a Transformers "kit" that was supposed to have an added layer of icing that was supposed to look like flames. It was very time consuming to do, and never looked that good anyway, so today I tried just spraying the flames and it worked great and was so much faster

I also tried making the new High School Musical cake this afternoon. It has a perfect 5 point star on it that we are supposed to make free hand, with icing. Mine was a little lopsided, so after supper tonight, I sat down with a piece of paper and figured out how to draw 5 point stars free hand. I'll have to make another cake like that to see if I can do it with icing!

It wasn't long before the sun was going down fast. Here's our house and garage up on a little hill so we don't have to worry about flooding. We planted all the trees in the picture except the walnut tree.

I came on up the hill and walked over the the fence on the west of the house. This was taken looking out across the soybean field with foxtail growning by the fence. I got down on my knees to get the weeds in the foreground. I always thought I liked vividly colored sunsets best, but I'm beginning to change my mind. Since I started taking pictures of them, I like the ones like this one with the more delicate colors fading into one another.

I don't have to work tomorrow, so I will try to catch up with my neighbors. I'm also going to try to finish the table runner that I have been working on. I still have enough apples for another apple pie, so I may do that, too.

9/26/08 a couple firsts

Well I my boy finally come out of his shell tonight.

He has for 8, almost 9 years resisted touching fish, touching fish bait, or eating fish. At times very frustrating to me.

Tonight, he caught redfish, got the bait for it, then we come home and he insisted on eating it! And he loved it.

It was a good evening to be his dad.

Ah-, that’s something isn’t that. Must’ve been affected by many factors. Yeah.
Say, but there are many sports, you know, fishing too can be sport fishing. Actually, surprisingly, fishing is costly, you know.
I lately had been filming for a drama, and during it whenever I got a spare time, I couldn’t help going to a fishing gear store, to buy lures, you know. Yep. That had become something I looked forward to. Then again, some spare time would suddenly reappear a few days later and I’d be like “Eh I got a spare time again,” and I’d feel like “Eh, shall I go to the fishing gear store just for the sake,” then I’d buy some more stuff again, you know. Ne.
Lure-chan, please continue to fill my emptiness as you have.

At The Bait Shop...

One man's hobby was fishing. He spent all his weekends near the river or by the lake, paying no attention to weather. One Sunday, early in the morning, he went to the river as usual. It was cold and raining, so he decided to return back to his house.

The man came in, went to his bedroom, undressed and lay near his wife. The lights were off and he snuggled up behind her. She didn't even turn around.

“What terrible weather today, Honey," he said to her.

"Yes, she answered. "And my idiot husband went fishing!"

Variety Show

We had a Variety Show at church last night to kick off confirmation which Cody begins this year. Lily & 4 of her best friends sang "Come to Jesus". Unfortunately, its really hard to hear them but Lily does the 2nd solo.

Ray & I were also 1 of 4 couples asked to play the "Not-so-Newlywed Game". We didn't tell the kids about it so it was a surprise and Cody quickly turned the camera on video. Unfortunately, he never stopped it so the file is too big to share. I love the "Newlywed Game". We played it on our honeymoon in Jamaica and lost in a 1st place tie-breaker. Ray was not excited about playing it again but I had high hopes that we would do well. I sure wasn't prepared for the difficult questions they asked!

First, they ushered the wives away and asked the men questions. In blue are the answers Ray gave and mine are in red.

Who says "I Love You" more? Husband. (Whatever)!! Wife. It's actually probably quite similar.
If you had to describe your family as a TV show, would it be "The Cosby's", "Seventh Heaven", "Survivor", "The Simpsons", or "The Osbournes"? The Cosby's. I was the last to answer this and everyone before me said "The Cosby's" so I should've just gone wtih that. However, I thought it was between "Seventh Heaven" and "Survivor". I chose the latter.
If you were going to describe your wife as an animal, which animal would she be? Unicorn (because I used to collect them). A bird because I sing. And unicorns aren't real animals!! Duh!
When was the last time you and your wife were out past midnight together? New Year's. Dang. It had been so long I couldn't think of anything. I finally just said the lake because we're often up until at least midnight. New Year's WAS a long time ago!

So at the end of the first round, we were the only team with 0 points. I couldn't believe it! They ushered out the men and the wives got our questions.

If you're husband could quit his current job and get one doing whatever he wanted, what would it be? In my head, I thought football player (too old), be his own boss, or hunt/fish. I chose fish. Play football.
What % of the housework will your husband say he does? Again, difficult because we have a cleaning lady so she probably does close to 1/2 of the housework. I said 25%. 30%--so close!
Use one word to describe your husband while he's sleeping. All the other wives said loud or quiet. Well, Ray's not a big snorer but he has a hard time sleeping and the covers get much messier when he's home than when he's not (get your head out of the gutter). I said restless knowing he'd never get that one. Restless! Hallelujah, we were on the board with 10 pts.
What would your husband say is his biggest strength? What would you say is really his greatest strength? Obviously, this was hard because he has many strengths. Ultimately, my answer for both was that he can fix anything. I could also have easily said great husband, dad, or that he's very funny. Good dad.

So, we took last but it was so much fun. I just can't tell you how adorable Ray was up there. At church, he's often quiet and more in the shadows while I'm the visible person. I loved that everyone got to see the hilarious side of him that I first fell in love with. Even though he dreaded doing it, he'll be reaping the rewards!

9 Months & Counting.........

Don't worry. I'm not pregnant. I am, however, counting down until lake season returns. It's always so sad to close up the cabin for the winter when it seems we were just opening it for summer.

I didn't take a lot of photos over the weekend, but here are a few.

Jace's northern pike

So, Monday morning, Ray gave in and said we could take Blu home with us even though he didn't think it was a good idea. The kids were ecstatic. We spent all morning winterizing and cleaning the cabin. Minutes before we were going to leave, I ran over to Dawn's cabin to use their bathroom since ours were no longer available. Blu & Rascal had been over there for awhile playing with Dawn's pommeranian. While I was in the bathroom, I heard what sounded like high-pitched screams but they were very faint. When I came back outside, Cody was crying and Dawn's son was bawling with his head buried in her chest. I asked what happened and they said Blu was tearing him up. At first, I thought they meant Dawn's son! I didn't see where he seemed to be injured and then they explained that Blu got mad at Dawn's dog, grabbed him by the neck, and was shaking him like dogs do to their toys. Dawn's mom had been holding the dog's leash and finally managed to get him in her arms when Blu tried to grab him again. That's about the time Ray came sprinting over and was ready to kick Blu in the ribs when he ran off. The only people who missed it were Lily and me and I'm sure glad! Dawn's parents kept saying that it wasn't Blu's fault and that Bailey had egged him on but I don't think that made anyone feel better.

After that, I didn't know what to do. Ray checked Bailey over and he seemed uninjured. I'm thinking all that hair saved him. We loaded up and had Blu in the car. Rascal looked distressed and Blu was bouncing all over the place in the car. Obviously, I was having some serious doubts about taking Blu home now. I was very grateful when Cody said he didn't want Blu to come with us. That's all I needed to hear. Lily was sobbing but it was the right decision. Rascal seems to have a respect for Blu and doesn't antagonize him but Bailey was the 3rd little dog he'd gone after. Those were all yappy dogs but we couldn't take the chance that Rascal would tick Blu off. So much to my parents' dismay, we unloaded Blu and he got back in the truck with them. I think he just needs to be a ranch dog and hopefully his neutering on the 10th will help mellow him out. He's such a pussycat when it comes to people but he sure has issues with other dogs! Needless to say, it was another solemn ride home. I'd actually been praying that God would send me some kind of sign as to whether Blu was supposed to be with us or not. I think he sent a lightening bolt.

Our Labor Day weekend started off with "labor"! Bill & Cole worked together to build a dog house for the puppies.

Sunday we spent the day fishing. I played around with black & white settings and a new setting I hadn't tried before, beach. The beach setting takes the color of the water and surroundings and produces beach colors.

Also in this area of the Bighorns is a graveyard we found by accident a few years ago. We stopped there on the way to our fishing destination. The information displayed, regarding this historical site, describes the small town of Kane, Wyoming, established in 1912. This town no longer exists. Due to the probability of flooding from the Big Horn River/Lake, the government bought out the land from the community. In 1967, the town of Kane succumbed to rising lake waters. However, the cemetary still exists, along with a few other town markers. The sad part about the cemetary is that there are quite a few unmarked graves, some of them children. I took these shots with black & white settings.

Get Out Your Coats

Yousa! It was 89 degrees this afternoon and it is now 59 degrees and not expected to get over 60 tomorrow. At least we got through the majority of the weekend before the weather turned. The fishermen had no luck at all today and my dad's under the weather. Ray's also having major allergy issues. He couldn't suddently be allergic to dogs, could he? He usually has big allergy attacks in the spring and during harvest so I'm hoping that's it.

Frogs, Dogs, A Fish Hook & A Vet....We Should've Gone To Billings

When we left this morning to head up in the Big Horns for a day of fishing, I commented to Bill that this was the first time we didn't have to purchase anything to go fishing. I had ice in the freezer for the cooler, we had a full tank of gas and we even caught our own worms last night!

We had talked about different ways to spend this Sunday on our 3-day weekend. One idea was to go to Billings, get a motel & maybe do a little shopping. We decided against that, as September will be a little budget-tight and we didn't want to spend $80.00 on a room. So, off for a picnic & afternoon of fishing we went.

Unfortunately, we caught zero fish! The frustrating part of it was that we could see these huge fish jumping out of the water...but no bites! The kids, however, caught an abundant amount of frogs!

Taylor found a tupperware bowl, put some rocks & water in it and then Cole caught the lonely grasshopper for their food! Of course, they tried to convince us to let them bring them home. I said no way. They pressed on....maybe just 2 of them? When I explained that they were all a family & how sad they would feel to be taken away, they let them go without hesitation! Whew! They are rather cute though! :-)

Dogs in Big Horns

Since Taylor was so engrossed in her frog adventure, she had set her pole next to my chair, with the worm still on the hook. I thought it would be o.k. as the hook was almost to the top of the pole. Bad mistake...I should have listened to my gut instinct & put the pole up. Poor Snickers....he jumped for the worm and got a lip piercing from the hook. I felt horrible! We couldn't get the hook out, it had to be pushed through and then cut off. He wasn't in distress as long as we didn't touch the hook. We packed up and I called my mom & had her look up a vet in the nearest town that we would be coming to. Thank God the vet answered her home phone & agreed to meet us. Snickers had to be sedated so she could push the hook all the way through. I was amazed that I was able to watch the whole procedure! A shot for pain and a shot of antibiotics, then we were off. He's doing fine now, just a little groggy. The vet bill...$80.00!

We should have gone to Billings.

Cassanova

We're having a great time so far at the lake. It's so nice having Blu here without worrying about his well-being. He's a bit like a newborn. We tried getting him to sleep in the house last night. He paced up and down the hallway and then it got quiet so I went to peek. He was up on the couch staring longingly out the window. You see, his girlfriend is just a few cabins away and his appt. to get snipped isn't until Sept. 10. I brought him into our room but he wouldn't lie down. He ended up crawling on the bed which really wasn't a good idea since I'm still on the fence about whether I'm allergic to him or not. He even got up in between Ray & I and Ray was petting him. I think Ray has a soft spot for Blu because Rascal is absolutely not allowed to sleep between us. Blu wouldn't stop licking Ray so I finally gave up and decided to put him out on the leash at 12:45 am.

We all slept really well after that. When we awoke in the morning, there was a collar attached to a leash but no dog in the collar. Guess he had a good night after all ;) My mom would really like us to take him home. Honestly, I'd really like to but this morning I thought my lungs were feeling tight but then it quit. I went to town and bought some dog spray that is supposed to alleviate allergies from pet dander. We did that with our old dog, Bandit, when we first got him but eventually stopped using it and I was fine. Mom thought we could take him and if we found out I couldn't handle him, we'd have to find him a home. I also started Claritin on Thursday so that's probably keeping my nose from running.

Today, all Blu wants to do is sleep. I've been trying to have him burn some energy so he'll be tired tonight but he's not interested. It probably doesn't help that it's 98 degrees outside.

My BFF from h.s., Dawn, is back here this weekend and she brought her 11 yo son. Cody's been having a great time with him and didn't even go fishing. The only problem is they have a golf cart and just drive it all over the place. At first, I reluctantly allowed Cody to ride along and drive some. Then, I saw his friend driving in what I consider an unsafe manner. So, we put a stop to that. Poor Cody was forced to ride his bike while one friend drove a golf cart and the other a full-sized ATV without a helmet (don't even get me started on that). I finally gave in and said he could ride only in the golf cart and just around our cabins. If I saw anymore unsafe driving that would be it for the weekend. I hate always feeling like the overprotective mother but what do you do?

The fishing was slow today but they did catch 4 nice walleyes and Jace got a 20 inch northern pike. Jace is infatuated with pike so that made for big excitement to him.

おぁ～。アイスはね、美味いんですよね、やっぱりね。僕も結構今年は食べましたね。シャーベット系とかね。ええ。時にバニラ系ね。ええ。いろいろ食べましたけど。
まぁ、でも今年はまた暑かったですよね～。僕はね、今年はね、一番暑かったかも！やっぱりね、真夏にね、黒いスーツってのはね、ホントにすごいもう強烈ですね。ええ。もう常にサウナみたいな。でもホント、サラリーマンの方々の気持ちがよく分かりましたよ。毎年この夏をね、スーツで乗り切ってるんだと。
これからね、夏が終わり秋、冬とありますけどね、ワタクシはもっと山を乗り切った後ですけどね、この秋と冬はカツオあたりを一発どでかいのガツンと釣らなきゃいけないと思っております。

Oah~. Ice-creams, they are umai aren’t they, after all. I ate them quite a lot this year. Like sherbets and such. Yes. Especially the vanilla kinds. Yes. I ate various though.
Say, it was especially hot this year~. For me, this year was the hottest! After all, wearing black suits in the mid summer is seriously intense. Yes. Like you are in a sauna all the time. But really, I felt businessmen’s pain very well. Every summer, they are going through this, that is.
There will be the fall after the summer, then the winter, which is coming after I tide over this hardship, I’m determined to fish a jackpot like katsuo (bonito) during this fall and winter.

VACATION COMING

It's not often I take time off. Doing so seems to result in a loss of revenue for my employer. However, I have decided to maximize the Labor day holiday for a run of 9 consecutive days off by taking the entire week for a much needed break.

Saturday my California Golden Bears take on the Spartans from Michigan State in what will be a pretty good look at what our season has in store. A much better look into the future than a game against Sacramento State would show. Remember that game a couple years ago? Ask Nate Longshore about that game. He'll tell you while he took a snap from center and dropped back to pass, he was sacked and broke his leg and was lost for the year against a team that the win would mean nothing.

Sunday will be a restful day of church, followed by a nap. After Mondays BBQ at church, I plan on making part of my drive north to my parents home near the Oregon border in the town of Yreka.

Tuesday will be fun. Instead of making the usual drive the rest of the way to Washington, we will deviate in Salem and head towards the Oregon coast to the town of Tillamook. You probably recognize that name. They are very popular for cheese and Ice cream. I have wanted for awhile to visit their property and take a tour and this will be my chance. After the tour, our family will enjoy some beach time for some kite flying. Jocelyn always asks when she will ever get to fly a kite, and this will be her opportunity.

Wednesday and Thursday will be spent fishing with the kids and spending time at a wild life refuge which Kaitlyn will love. I have no further plans than that and that's just the way I like it. We all need a few days to wind down near the end of our vacations.

How often do we take time off only to return to work wishing we had rested more instead of cramming all kinds of things into the short period of time we have off? We end up needing a vacation from our vacation. I can remember driving to Illinois one summer and then taking a side trip near Louisville to fish and then drove home all within a week. In no way did I feel any better when I returned to work. Unfortunatly we don't live in Europe to receive the many weeks of vacation they do.

Fishin' in the rain.

Last week, I went fishing with some friends at the library down at the Oceanfront at Rudee Inlet. The one fish that we caught was a small sea bass that we threw back. There were a lot of rocks here though so we kept getting our sinkers stuck in them. Next time we are going to the Chesapeake Bay where it is just sand and no rocks.

And here's a little fishing boat that got stuck in the storm being towed behind a bigger boat. We felt like we were on Baywatch, except Pamela Anderson Lee was not there and the surf watch guys were fully clothed. They were hot though and very effective in their duties.

Thought I'd do a quick post to explain the two pictures I posted.

First, I love the packing job we do - it's taken some 40 years, but I think we have the pier trip down pat. We use Nathan's old wagon and it has everything on it strapped down with bungee cords:

We aren't the only ones who do stuff like this, but I heard a couple of people commenting on it today and I thought "Well, it IS kind of neat now that you mention it." It REALLY beats carrying all that crap out by hand.

The second picture? Well, of course anytime Jamie and I are involved with something - you can bet that the third ingredient will be DRAMA. Tonight's drama included some lady who passed out at the pier cafe, apparently from too much alcohol and then some cops were walking around looking for her family. Of course, they stopped to talk to someone RIGHT near us so we heard some of it and Jamie caught most of the excitement while she was up at the bathroom where the paramedics were actually there with her. Here are the cops as they left:

Plus, it tells us a little of your mental capacity to comprehend being a danger to yourself and others. First a ticket, then a padded cell. Sure you don't have a Permit?"
