The Leftists know the overwhelming support would be for McCain. In a close election this is a BIG DEAL.

Move America Forward is asking for monetary donations to organize the sending of Absentee Ballots to Armed Service Personal in foreign nations that would find it difficult to vote.

Thus I am posting MAF’s email ad to hopefully move readers to support the right to vote for soldiers overseas, Afghanistan and Iraq.

JRH 8/8/08
*****************************
U.S. TROOPS IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN DENIED THE RIGHT TO VOTE!

Melanie Morgan
Email Sent: Thu 8/7/2008 12:25 PM
Move America Forward

I was stunned when I learned our government has disenfranchised the very people who give YOU AND ME the freedom to vote. United States troops have liberated people in Iraq and Afghanistan and given them the gift of voting. Remember the purple fingers? It is outrageous that our troops don't have the same ability to vote as they fight for America.

When we heard about this, we couldn't believe it could be true. But after we have thoroughly researched it, the ugly truth is starting to come out. Most U.S. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will not get a chance to vote this year because bureaucrats and politicians in Washington have done absolutely nothing to repair a systemic problem that literally stops most of our troops from voting.

WE HAVE TO STEP IN AND MAKE SURE OUR TROOPS VOTE

We need to urgently print absentee ballot applications and send them to the troops directly ourselves since politicians and bureaucrats have totally failed them. But we need your help to pay for the cost of printing the absentee ballot applications and the mailing costs to Iraq and Afghanistan. If you can help, please CLICK HERE and make a contribution.

The worst thing about this is that we are suspicious that there is more than bureaucratic incompetency at work here. You and I have worked together to support our troops and their mission. But there are those who oppose us; they know the troops support their mission to rid the world of Islamic terrorists who are bent on destroying the United States. We can't help but believe that some of this failure is caused by leftist anti-troop bureaucrats and politicians who DON'T WANT THE TROOPS TO VOTE!

Only 5.5 percent of U.S. troops serving overseas were able to vote and actually have their vote counted in 2006, according to the Federal Election Assistance Commission. We should be guaranteeing that EVERY SINGLE MILITARY MAN AND WOMAN will have their ballot counted. CLICK HERE IF YOU CAN HELP

CONGRESS IS DISGRACEFUL IN FAILING TO ACT

The House and Senate are currently stalling on legislation that would improve troops' access to voting. A resolution for Congress to crack down on the Department of Defense to streamline the voting process for soldiers has been introduced by Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), but the proposal has been blocked by politicians in the House of Representatives. Blunt's resolution is now stuck in the House Armed Services subcommittee with no prospects of moving forward.

But while we fight the battle in Congress, you can help our troops participate in the freedom of voting that they fight for everyday. Move America Forward has a plan to assist our men and women in war zones who want to vote!

HELP MOVE AMERICA FORWARD GET BALLOTS TO OUR TROOPS

We want to send 100,000 federal post card applications to our troops to help ensure every serviceman or servicewoman can get the ballots they need to vote. MAF has put together a HEROES' VOTING PACKET that will help give our soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen the information they need to get a ballot and have their vote counted in 2008

But voting deadlines are rapidly approaching in some states and the mail delivery times from Iraq and Afghanistan can be long. We must get the packets printed now, but we don't have the funds to do it. We need your help so our military men and women will be able to vote.

Please help our military heroes get the paperwork they need:

CONTRIBUTE HERE

You may also mail in a check or money order (payable to "Move America Forward") to:

Move America Forward
P.O. Solomon Banda – 11 hours ago

DENVER (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union said Thursday it will not appeal a federal judge's ruling that upheld the city's decision to limit protests during the Democratic National Convention to a fenced-in demonstration zone, and to end all marches more than a quarter-mile from the site.

Judge Marcia S. Krieger had ruled Wednesday that the restrictions do not infringe on protesters' free-speech rights. Mark Silverstein, ACLU-Colorado legal director, said that since the Sept. 11 attacks the law has shifted to favor security over First Amendment rights.

"That's sad, but that's the state of the law," Silverstein said.

Silverstein said the lawsuit yielded several victories, including getting the city to issue parade permits in a timely manner, install a public address system in the demonstration zone so delegates can hear protesters and allow protesters to put literature on tables along a sidewalk for delegates.

Glenn Spagnuolo, co-founder of protest group Recreate 68, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, said his group was still considering its response.

"Basically the way we'll be appealing it is we'll be appealing it in the streets," he said.

Protest groups had complained the demonstration zone and march routes keep them out of earshot of delegates.

The 47,000-square-foot demonstration zone that protesters call the "freedom cage" will have a chain-link fence atop concrete barriers on three sides. The fourth side will be open to pedestrians on a street south of the Pepsi Center, where the convention will be held Aug. 25-28...

Full Story Here

The estimates typically exclude one-time items...

...Setting U.S. profit records has become commonplace for Irving-based Exxon Mobil. The $11.68 billion topped its own U.S. record of $11.66 billion, posted in the fourth quarter of last year. Right behind that was the $10.9 billion it reported to start 2008.

Exxon Mobil owns the record for at least the top six most-profitable quarters for a U.S. company, as well as the largest annual profit....

...For the first six months of 2008, Exxon Mobil said it earned $22.57 billion, or $4.25 a share, from $19.54 billion, or $3.45 a share, in the first half of 2007. Revenue rose to $254.9 billion from $185.5 billion...

Full Story Here

Your early reading in advance of tomorrow's show!
Here is Tony's column this week, followed by Bob's:

Townhall.com
The Destroyer of Worlds
Copyright © 2008 Salem Web Network. All Rights Reserved.
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/TonyBlankley/2008/07/30/the_destroyer_of_worlds

Tony Blankley
Wednesday, July 30, 2008

In the Birla Temple, a Hindu temple in Delhi, India, there is a plaque that reads: "He who is known as Vishnu the Preserver is verily Rudra the Destroyer, and He who is Rudra is Brahma the Creator." This fact (from Arthur Herman's book "Gandhi and Churchill") came to me over the weekend as I was rereading Sen. Obama's Berlin speech. Now, let me assure my easily offended friends in the Obama camp that I am not suggesting Obama is or ever was a Hindu. I take him at his word that he is whatever he says he is. (Pass out more eggshells.) But it is precisely his words regarding his philosophy of government that I find ambiguous -- and potentially disturbing.

Secular would-be leaders of men who promise transcendence and transformational change have something in common with the promises and warnings of many religions. They claim to want to preserve what is good in their people and change what needs to be changed to make their lives and souls even better. But unlike some religions, secular leaders with transforming visions of their missions often skip over the bits about what must be destroyed in order to bring those better things to man. And that is where religions are often more honest.

For instance, in Hindu, the god Rudra, who is also known as Lord Shiva, is the third god in the Hindu trinity. He destroys worlds. Specifically, he destroys the evil passions and animal instincts that usually characterize human consciousness in order to make room for divinity to enter man's world. He is believed by many Hindus to inspire people to perform acts of courage, spiritual wisdom and devotion.

Now, I am, God knows, no expert on comparative religion. But among the more popular human attributes that many religions condemn is the human desire to possess material things. (Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's oxen or wives, etc.) And most religions remind us that we are all brothers and sisters of one humanity.

But man persists in liking to have things and organizing around groups smaller than humanity. Specifically, modern Western civilization -- and the United States, in particular -- has done rather well organizing into nations and permitting its people to be free to produce and keep most of the fruits of our labor.

Reading Obama's Berlin speech, I see dangerous suggestions that he doesn't share that happy view of American prosperity. As he said, while he came to Berlin as "a proud citizen of the United States," he also came to Berlin as "a fellow citizen of the world." Putting aside the thought that a rally in Berlin in front of a quarter-million glistening-eyed, bosom-clenching, swooning Germans is a historically awkward spot for a leader to proclaim his worldwide goals for tomorrow, his actual words are disconcerting enough -- even if they had been delivered in peaceful Switzerland.

He said: "The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between natives and immigrants cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down. We know that these walls have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a union of promise and prosperity."

That last sentence would suggest that Obama is not terribly keen about nation-states. It suggests that he believes that nation-states have outgrown their practical and moral utility. That is why, presumably, he says that we must tear down the walls between the countries "with the most" -- that would be the United States -- and those with the least. That is why he calls for tearing down walls between "natives and (illegal?) immigrants." That is why he is for strict reductions in carbon emissions for the United States, even if it reduces our prosperity more than it does poorer countries.

That is why he is a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 2433, the Global Poverty Act, a bill Obama's own Web site proudly claims would "cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015." Now, that bill would only authorize the end of gross wealth disparities between nations; it doesn't appropriate money for it or order taxes to pay for it. So technically, that promise doesn't cost a cent. But if Obama is sincere about those goals he proudly champions -- and if he has the political power next year to raise taxes and appropriate taxpayer dollars -- we could see the beginning of vast transfers of our wealth to his "fellow citizens of the world."

Sen. Obama owes it to the public to let us know how much of our hard-earned money he, in his wisdom, believes we have a moral obligation to give away to poor people around the world -- and how much of our money that he has a moral obligation to extract from our wages forcefully, through federal taxation. He has a moral obligation to do as the Hindu god Rudra did and tell his intended subjects what of ours he will destroy to make us better people.

I hope Obama is just saying stuff that he thinks sounds good to the kids. But if Obama means what he says, we should brace for the wrath of Rudra.

Sucking Up to the Bankers: A Bipartisan Lovefest

http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080729_sucking_up_to_the_bankers/

Posted on Jul 29, 2008

By Robert Scheer

This is a time to condemn the bankers, not to embrace them. They are the scoundrels who got us into the biggest economic mess since the Great Depression, lining their own pockets while destroying the life savings of those who trusted them. Yet both of our leading presidential candidates are scrambling to enlist not only the big-dollar contributions but, more frighteningly, the “expertise” of the very folks who advocated the financial industry deregulations at the heart of this meltdown.

Republican candidate John McCain even appointed as his campaign co-chairman Phil Gramm, who went from being chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, where he sponsored disastrous legislation that empowered the banking bandits, to becoming one of them at UBS Warburg. Gramm was forced to resign from McCain’s campaign only after he went public with his contempt for the financial concerns of ordinary Americans, calling them “whiners” and perpetrators of a “mental recession.”

But Gramm and the Republicans couldn’t have done it without the support of leading Democrats. The most egregious of Gramm’s legislative favors to the financiers took the form of legislation named in part after him—the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which became law only after then-Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin prevailed upon President Clinton to sign the bill. The bill’s immediate major effect was to legitimize the long-sought merger between Citibank and insurance giant Travelers. Rubin’s critical support for the bill was rewarded with an appointment, within days of its passage, to a top job at Citibank (later Citigroup) paying more than $15 million a year.

That is the same Rubin with whom Democratic candidate Barack Obama met, along with other influential advisers, on Tuesday to figure out what to do about the sorry state of our economy. But what in the world did he expect to learn from Rubin? And why did he appoint Rubin’s protégé, Jason Furman, who ran the Rubin-funded Hamilton Project, to be the Obama campaign’s economic director? Hopefully, during their encounter Tuesday, Rubin offered himself as a contrite model of everything that the candidate of change needs to change.

After all, Goldman Sachs, where Rubin spent 25 years of his business career before entering the Clinton administration, has been one of the prime corporate villains in the financial shenanigans that led to the subprime mortgage scandal. As co-chairman of the firm, surely he had knowledge of the financial hanky-panky that would prove so disastrous down the road. Indeed, as Treasury secretary, he favored an extension of the deregulation that enabled this explosion of banking avarice. Not surprisingly, the current Treasury secretary, Henry Paulson, also previously headed Goldman.

When Rubin assumed a top position at Citibank after his stint at the Treasury, he was not above influencing his former employees in the government. In one notorious instance during the fall of 2001, when Enron was going down the tubes Rubin telephoned a Treasury undersecretary and asked him to consider intervening with credit-rating agencies to hold off downgrading Enron’s ratings. When the story was leaked, some media accounts noted the possibility of a conflict of interest because Enron owed Citibank $750 million, which it could not pay if bankrupt.

Despite his skills and his vaunted position as Citibank’s chairman, Rubin was not spared the disastrous consequences of Citibank’s own wild financial manipulations, which, if anything, exceeded those of Enron. Tens of billions in bad mortgage and credit card debt placed the bank at the forefront of the current economic crisis, and so it is weird that Obama would now turn to Rubin for advice.

It’s even weirder that the presumptive Democratic nominee would pick Rubin’s man Furman as his campaign economic director at a time when cleaning up the mess left by the bankers is the highest priority. Furman hardly distinguished himself four years ago in that role in John Kerry’s failed presidential campaign, with its muffled economic message that could not be blamed on the candidate’s stiff style alone.

The bigger problem is that folks such as Rubin and Furman, perhaps best known as an economist for his bold but woefully misguided defense of the Wal-Mart business model, clearly do not feel the pain of the voters who are losing their homes.

But then again, why should Rubin, or Gramm on the Republican side, be expected to care when he has made so many millions off the suffering of those voters? Not good at a time when we need a presidential candidate who sticks it to the bankers instead of sucking up to them.

Robert Scheer is author of a new book, “The Pornography of Power: How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America.”

The rating agency Standard & Poor's said it may
downgrade a $19bn chunk of subordinated debt issued by two agencies
despite the Treasury plan, citing "heightened financial risks".

This
raises implicit concerns about the credit worthiness of the United
States itself, though S&P denies any plan to cut the US sovereign
rating at this stage.

Hank Paulson, the US treasury
secretary, brushed aside complaints that the rescue package amounts to
a taxpayer bail-out for shareholders, insisting that the new authority
to buy stock is merely intended to reassure investors and may never be
activated if all goes well. The authority expires at the end of 2009.

(Here)

Another insightful comment from John McCain -

"``Wall Street is the villain in the things that happened in
the subprime lending crisis and other areas where investigations
and possible prosecution is going on,'' McCain said during a
taped appearance on ABC's ``This Week'' program." (Here)

The big losers here are the American people. Wall Street is most certainly not the villain - companies were out to make a profit, people were out to buy a house...the two interests converged and at the intersection you have people taking out loans without reading the fine print and companies profiting from it. You then have folks not being able to pay these loans and companies not able to sell the securities backed by these bad mortgages. Companies are punished because they can not raise capital, and people are punished when their homes get foreclosed on.

This is the market. A system that is free has to provide the opportunity to make bad decisions and to have these decisions punished. The market will self correct.

To all those Republicans who voted no on HR 3221:

Barrasso (R-WY)
Coburn (R-OK)
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
DeMint (R-SC)

Ensign (R-NV)
Enzi (R-WY)
Grassley (R-IA)
Hatch (R-UT)
Hutchison (R-TX)

Kyl (R-AZ)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)

Thank you.

The colossal colluding with Democrats over this bail out has pushed me over the edge. Coupled with their terrible monetary policy and blind spending I see no difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Where have all the small government conservatives gone?

OK, so maybe you don't believe Obama is a Muslim. Is it enough to know that Muslims like Osama bin Laden think he is a Muslim? Al Qaeda has sponsored Senator Obama's run for the presidency and terrorist organizations around the world want Obama to be president. I have stated repeatedly that I suspect that he is a Muslim plant just like these sleeper cells only this plant has been burying into the system since before Osama was a blip on the radar of American interests abroad.

Muslim world's view of Obama
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 7/22/2008 6:00:00 AM

A conservative political pundit believes a controversial magazine cover depicting Democratic presidential Barack Obama as a Muslim has some truth.

The New Yorker magazine cover shows Obama dressed as a Muslim, and his wife Michelle dressed in fatigues with an assault rifle strapped over her shoulder. The two are doing a fist bump in the Oval Office, a picture of Osama bin Laden hangs on the mantle, and an American flag burns in the fireplace.

While the magazine has stated the cover was meant to be a satirical lampoon of the caricature Obama's opponents have tried to create, an Obama campaign spokesman has called it "tasteless and offensive." John McCain's campaign spokesman agreed with that assessment. But Brigitte Gabriel, founder of Act for America, says the cover is actually an accurate portrayal of how Obama is viewed in the Muslim world. "The Muslim world does look at Obama as a Muslim," she contends.

As for the picture of Osama bin Laden on the wall, she continues, Obama has been sponsored by al Qaida. "Al Qaida wants Obama to be president.

I started out digging into the story behind Nancy Pelosi. Twana had asked me to do an expose` on her but as I dug in, I found that Nancy is straight up Democrat Party hack to the core. She has a further left voting record than Barak Obama. Where Obama's voting record shows he has voted along party lines 96% of the time in the Senate (more than any other senator, Nancy has voted along party lines 98% of the time in the House of Representatives. The further I dug, the more I realized that all of Nancy's astoundingly stupid moves have not been Nancy moves but Democratic moves. She is simply following the party line and agenda. The astounding dangerous games with national security and foreign policy are founded and supported by the Democratic version of wisdom. So, here is what I've learned.

In the House of Representatives, the captain of the football team or the quarterback is the speaker of the house. The position is the third highest in the U.S. government after the president and the vice president which means if anything should incapacitate both the president and the vice president, the speaker would assume the position of president until an emergency election could be held to fill the position again. The fourth would be Harry Reid, president pro-tem of the Senate. A Speaker of the House is elected by the elected Representatives. So,
when Democrats won the majority in 2006, Nancy assumed the position by
House vote. In this position she controls which bills come before the House of Representatives to be debated and voted on. In essence as long as the bill is in the house, the speaker controls the political football. The most visible responsibility of the Speaker is wielding the gavel in the House to allocate time for opposing parties to argue their points over each bill and to keep the order in the House. This position requires a certain decorum. One has to be fair to the minority party delegates with regard to counting votes and declaring wins or losses. Often these are made verbally in the interest of expedience, but are sometimes disputed and so go to a recorded vote. What happens if the speaker is less than honorable?

I'm using the game metaphor because that is the way the Democrats have been treating the policy making process. Partisanship and political strategy takes priority over any other factor whether foreign policy, national security or issues of morality being legislated by our policy makers. It doesn't matter if its pulling our troops out of Iraq or if its embryonic stem cell research or economic stimulus efforts, self defense via citizens legally arming themselves, or corporal punishment. Results don't matter, good intentions are what matter to Democrats. In my estimation, they don't believe the American voters' attention span is long enough to notice the damage done by their policies or agenda.

One demonstration of this strategic partisan games playing with foreign policy especially in regard to national security and the war effort in Iraq was Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria to engage in talks with a hostile government for the express purpose of undermining White House efforts designed to put pressure on Syria to disengage from support for Muslim insurgency in Lebanon as well as material support for insurgency into Iraq. The Wall Street Journal called this visit 'Dangerous' and 'Foolish.' This gaming with policy in relation to hostile forces in the region does not just undermine the Bush administration, it undermines national and ally interests by emboldening our enemies making our national will appear divided and weak. This puts our troops in the battlefield in greater danger and makes their mission that much harder to accomplish.

So why would Nancy be willing to play partisan politics on issues as important as national security? A short look at her bio tells me a lot. Nancy was born into politics and has had as her goal in life nothing but politics. She is a political hack from the district that is furthest left in a state that is competing for the title of furthest left. She is dependent on her base in San Francisco, California to stay seated in Congress. As demonstrated by her base, if she wanders too far from their ideals, they loudly call her out any variance from the party line. But that isn't all. I submit to you that she is acting in line with the Democratic agenda to undermine president Bush at any cost for simple political clout.
http://www.petitiononline.com/everyman/petition.html

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/p000197/

PELOSI, Nancy, (daughter of Thomas D’Alesandro, Jr.), a Representative
from California; born Nancy D’Alesandro in Baltimore, Md., March 26,
1940; A.B., Trinity College, 1962; chair, California State Democratic
Party, 1981-1983; finance chairman, Democratic Senatorial Campaign
Committee, 1985-1986; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundredth
Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death
of United States Representative Sala Burton, and reelected to the ten
succeeding Congresses (June 2, 1987-present); minority whip (One
Hundred Seventh Congress); minority leader (One Hundred Eighth and One
Hundred Ninth Congress); Speaker of the House (One Hundred Tenth
Congress). (Source.)

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/p000197/

Nancy Pelosi has voted with a majority of her Democratic colleagues

As Barak Obama has the highest record voting along party lines with 96% in the Senate, so Nancy holds the highest record voting along party lines in the House. What this means is a party hack with the most extreme leftist voting record is the third highest power in the land. At the same time the fourth highest position of power in the land is occupied by Harry Reid, at the same time the highest party line voter in the Senate is the DNC pick for the Democratic presidential candidate. If successful, the most extreme Leftist body in Washington will have full control of two of the three branches of government with the last one (the Supreme Court) having a history of taking specific cases to write laws by precedent and move our government and culture to the left. This means, should Barak Obama win the presidency, for the first time in American history the dissenting voice of conservatism will have been shunted to the sidelines for at least two years and more likely as many as eight years of one sided power control.

What's at issue with partisanship is this self destructive nature of the Democratic agenda. From national budget issues to workers' rights to human rights, every vote and every bill authored will be cementing into our governance further and further socialist action than we have ever known in America. Nearly every position is either detrimental to freedom, to human rights, to societal health and strength, to even naming evil and will have no check or balance to limit this agenda. The liberal mind is either dead set on destroying the greatest force for good in recorded history or simply doesn't believe our system is fragile enough to crumble under the weight of selling national pride for political currency. Instead of defending the reputation of America's efforts to bring good and right into the world, they are celebrating its decline..

CFLs or Compact fluorescent lights, you know the "curly bulbs" that are all the rage. Legislation was passed that phases out all incandescent lighting by 2012. The problem? You can't just throw them away in some states and I'm sure other states will be passing laws that prohibit public disposal. If so you will need to schedule a Non-Hazardous Waste pickup and a <del>EPA</del> Bill of Lading <del>Manifest</del> will need to be completed before the pickup. Another option is transporting the waste to a local recycling center. Also, did you know if one breaks you are supposed to evacuate the entire room for 15 minutes and close off any ventilation. Wait that's not all... if you live in an apartment building you are supposed to call maintenance to turn off the air conditioning if you break one of those bulbs. I would like to listen in on that phone call. The EPA has dedicated a page to those wonderful new squiggly bulbs and thermometers; as a bonus they also list things you should never do when cleaning up a broken lightbulb.

I'm going to copy and paste from the EPA site their instructions for how to clean up and dispose of a CFL. I'm also posting the information on what never to do. The link to the EPA webpage with the full information is at the bottom of the page and in the link above. This is information that every American should be required to know. If you have children or pets I wouldn't put one in any lamp that could accidently get knocked over.

Fluorescent light bulbs contain a very small amount of mercury sealed
within the glass tubing. EPA recommends the following clean-up and
disposal below.

Before Clean-up: Air Out the Room

Have people and pets leave the room, and don't let anyone walk through the breakage area on their way out.

Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes or more.

Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system, if you have one.

Clean-Up Steps for Hard Surfaces

Carefully scoop up glass pieces and powder using stiff paper or
cardboard and place them in a glass jar with metal lid (such as a canning
jar) or in a sealed plastic bag.

Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small
          glass fragments and powder.

Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place towels in the glass jar or plastic bag.

Do not use a vacuum or broom to clean up the broken bulb on hard surfaces.

Clean-up Steps for Carpeting or Rug

Carefully pick up glass fragments and place them in a glass jar with
          metal lid (such
as a canning jar) or in a sealed plastic bag.

Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small
          glass fragments
          and powder.

If vacuuming is needed after all visible materials are removed, vacuum (? see below what not to do) the area where the bulb was broken.

Remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister), and put the
bag or vacuum debris in a sealed plastic bag.

Clean-up Steps for Clothing, Bedding and Other Soft Materials

If
clothing or bedding materials come in direct contact with broken glass
or mercury-containing powder from inside the bulb that may stick to the
fabric, the clothing or bedding should be thrown away. Do not wash such
clothing or bedding because mercury fragments in the clothing may
contaminate the machine and/or pollute sewage.

You
can, however, wash clothing or other materials that have been exposed
to the mercury vapor from a broken CFL, such as the clothing you are
wearing when you cleaned up the broken CFL, as long as that clothing
has not come into direct contact with the materials from the broken
bulb.

If shoes come into direct contact with broken
glass or mercury-containing powder from the bulb, wipe them off with
damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place the towels or wipes in
a glass jar or plastic bag for disposal.

Disposal of Clean-up Materials

Immediately place all clean-up materials outdoors in a trash container or protected area for the next normal trash pickup. (Unless you live in a state that prohibits public disposal)

Wash your hands after disposing of the jars or plastic bags containing clean-up materials.

Check with your local or state government about disposal requirements
in your specific area. Some states do not allow such trash disposal.
Instead, they require that broken and unbroken mercury-containing bulbs
be taken to a local recycling center.

Future Cleaning of Carpeting or Rug: Air Out the Room During and After Vacuuming

The next several times you vacuum, shut off the central forced-air
heating/air conditioning system and open a window before vacuuming.

Keep the central heating/air conditioning system shut off and the
window open for at least 15 minutes after vacuuming is completed.

Now for the instructions on WHAT NOT TO DO.

What Never to Do with a Mercury Spill

Never use a vacuum (? see what to do) cleaner to clean up mercury. The
vacuum will put mercury into the air and increase exposure.

Never use a broom to clean up mercury. It will break the mercury into smaller droplets and spread them.

Never pour mercury down a drain. It may lodge in the plumbing and cause
future problems during plumbing repairs. If discharged, it can cause
pollution of the septic tank or sewage treatment plant.

Never
wash clothing or other items that have come in direct contact with
mercury in a washing machine, because mercury may contaminate the
machine and/or pollute sewage. Clothing that has come into direct
contact with mercury should be discarded. By "direct contact," we mean
that mercury was (or has been) spilled directly on the clothing. For
example:

if you broke a mercury thermometer and some of elemental mercury beads came in contact with your clothing, or

if you broke a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) so that broken glass and
other material from the bulb, including mercury-containing powder, came
into contact with your clothing.

You
can, however, wash clothing or other materials that have been exposed
to the mercury vapor from a broken CFL, like the clothing you happened
to be wearing when you cleaned up the broken CFL, as long as that
clothing has not come into direct contact with the materials from the
broken bulb.

Never walk around if your shoes might be contaminated with mercury. Contaminated clothing can also spread mercury around.

Here's the Link the full page on the EPA site: Mercury spills, disposal and site cleanup.

Got all that? now go get green and think how lucky we are that Corporate America lobbyist are so environmentally friendly.

Now don't you feel better about what a great job the people in charge are doing about finding things to help us "folks" be green. I hate the word folks, when used by politicians, we are people. (I also hate the word troops they are soldiers, a soldier dies not a troop... but that's another post for another day...

By 2012 everyone will be using these lighs. One broken bulb or one burnt out bulb being disposed of improperly is no big deal but remember by 2012 all incandescent lignting is going to be phased out. Millions of Americans will be disposing of these bulbs minus any kind of regulated control. Think about it.

We have to find a better way. Yea... this is receiving my "I'm Just Saying" tag.
