I've been trying to think of stuff to get for my best friend's mom for her birthday. Her birthday is next Wednesday and while I took them to Olive Garden last week as an early present, I wanted to get Mom something she can use. So I was looking around online and thought about the fact that she keeps complaining that the birds keep, well, messing up her car. That poor car has bird splats all over it, all the time. So I was thinking maybe I should get her a car cover so she can finally not have to worry about the car being covered in bird gunk.

See, Mom doesn't wear jewelry, she's allergic to perfumes and scents, and she doesn't like stuff like candles. So buying for her is very hard. I'd crochet something for her, but she crochets and frankly, although I know she'd like it, I don't have enough time to do it. Frankly, the fact that her birthday was coming up slipped my mind with all that's been going on lately with my ears. So now I need to get on the ball and find a good present for her. *sigh*

So Sarah (who STILL hasn't sent me the link to her new Vox blog ;) ) mailed Gavin his birthday presents after realizing their visit to us here in Columbus wasn't going to work out. Big bummer, but her birthday package totally made up for it! Gavin was so excited to open his package from her...

Of course the mailman rang the doorbell at the most opportune moment. I had just discovered the spray-sunscreen had exploded in my pool bag, ruining my two spare swim diapers. I'm sure if you've seen the price on those things you'd have been upset too! (And while we're talking swim diapers..why do some come in packs of 11? Did they talk to the hot dog bun people and discover that the best way to irritate customers is to make inconvenient pack sizes? You know- how most hot dogs come in packs of 10 and the buns in packs of 8? Anyways- so why not 10 diapers or 12?)

 But I digress...
So there I was saying not so nice things about the exploding can of sunscreen that just ruined my pool bag, and the two ridiculously over-priced swim diapers, when the mailman rang the doorbell. The doorbell causes mass chaos. The dogs go nuts, I'm trying to reach through the door to the package and assorted letters without letting them loose, the mail man is nervous because of my two dogs (but I ask- do they look threatening?)

And then, I get the package through the door, the mailman turns to leave and Gromit seizes the opportunity to jump on the door, knocking it open and he chases the mailman back towards his truck. (Guess who's the most popular mail customer now?!)  After I wrestle him back inside, we set our eyes upon opening Sarah's gift.

After cutting it open, and pulling it out. Gavin knows immediately what to do. He might have been a little perplexed that the package was making elephant noises, but he knew how to get that wrapping paper OFF! Once he got the paper off, he glanced quickly at the contents. Two wonderful presents, singing Mommy/baby elephants and a set of Alphabet peek-a-blocks.

 But then he eyed the best part....all the bubble wrap used to protect his presents...and here's what happened next...

He lost interest at some point, and went back for the silver bow from the top, which was later eaten by Gromit. See I told you life was never dull here.

Sarah, you should know, Wallace did not appreciate your gift wrap...add bubble wrap to the list of things he's scared of. Today Gavin is enjoying the actual presents, and I'm pleased that your elephants completed our elephant family. (We had one elephant very similar from the train he got for Christmas) but now...no more bachelor elephant, he's got a family to provide for.

Well, we're off to complete Father's Day gift shopping and eating lunch out. That should be an adventure of its own, maybe even worth sharing once we're home :)
