The Miracle of Life

My wife and I continue to have talks about what it will be like to have a baby. Right now, we are surrounded with babies in a lot of ways. The church we are a part of only has about 50 people and right now, there are about 5 pregnant women. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the library and checked out the PBS Miracle of Life video. It was kind of cheese ball, but super amazing at the same time.

I can't wait to be a dad. It's going to be the most difficult and amazing thing I've ever done. Certainly my wife and I don't mind all the practice of making a baby right now :) However, neither of us are too keen about the pregnancy stage itself or the delivery. My wife is very fearful of hospitals and particularly, needles. So, anytime she is around someone in Cherokee Workwear scrubs or these, she gets a little tense. I think when it comes to it, she'll choose that giant needle over the pain, but we'll see.

I guess the pregnancy is God's way to give you time for the actual arrival of a new life. 9 months. It allows you to check out websites like this one and learn about a fit pregnancy and other info.

I can't wait. It's going to be absolutely incredible, and it truly is a miracle. Though the Fall cursed the process, Eve still worshiped when it happened for the first time ever.

So...I get made fun of all the time for comparing flavors of things to what other things MIGHT taste like (things you never would want to actually taste)...but I guess I have a really strong connection between my nose and my taste buds. Here's the story of my latest weird hypothetical-taste-comparison discovery.

The vending machines at my work have a plethora of candy, chocolate, chips, and other uber-healthy snacks to choose from. Usually when I find myself distracted by hunger and needing a little snack, I grab some Chex mix or something not TOO calorically devastating or packed with sugar and fat. Sometimes I go for limited edition Wild Cherry m&m's. And EVERY time, I forget that I NEVER want to eat them again, because there are always four or five (if I'm lucky -- sometimes more like eight or nine) single m&m's in the package that just taste wrong.

How wrong, you ask? I'm talking A&D diaper rash ointment wrong. For those of you who have ever changed a baby's diaper and had to use this dreaded cream, you know this is NOT a pretty taste to imagine, especially when we're talking chocolate. It's a VERY specific smell, and not a very pleasant one. And the fact that I seem to taste EXACTLY that same SMELL when I eat these m&m's...it just creeps me out.

The weird thing is, it's not EVERY m&m. It's as if the factory that produces these has some problem with its mixing machines or something, because sometimes an m&m will taste more cherry than chocolate. Other times more chocolate than cherry. And then there are those four or five (or eight or nine) in each package that taste like cherry-chocolate-rash-ointment. Blech.

The worst part about today's experience...is that I went to buy one of these bags of m&m's, and since it got stuck and didn't fall down and I didn't want to make a spectacle by shaking the machine...I had to BUY ANOTHER BAG so that they would BOTH fall down so I wouldn't waste any money. And thus...I have consumed TWICE the A&D-flavored Wild Cherry m&m's than usual. Not to mention twice the calories and sugar...and I'm feeling twice grossed-out, twice-motivated to go to the gym today, and TWICE-bummed out that I didn't bring my gym clothes to work (because the gym is near WORK, not my house). Bah!

Anyway...just wanted to share that with y'all. You can think I'm crazy for knowing what hypothetical diaper cream tastes like, but go smell some, then eat these m&m's, and I'm pretty sure you will be just as disturbed as I am.

Ughhhhh.

I am so sick of this whole Dancer Girl situation. She's now upset because her baby daddy is being an immature a-hole. Surprise! He slept with her good friend while she was on vacation. This weird hoe-bag girl who's half Brazilian and her father's yakuza, so she's loaded and she just goes out every night sleeping with stupid guys and giving them gifts and spending all her money in bars. Yeah, she's real smart. Apparently retardo-baby-daddy-boy went home with her because he thought he could get an iPod or more out of her. Which makes him a whore. I HATE guys like him, who just try to get things out of girls. That's why I never pay on a date.

Plus he's stalling and making a million excuses as to why he can't give Dancer money for the abortion. He's telling her "hey baby, we were never serious or nothing, right?" Which shouldn't really upset D, since she ONLY SPENT THE NIGHT WITH HIM TWICE!

I am just disappointed in my friend and disgusted by everyone.

If I was still in Tokyo, I would have seriously rained on baby-daddy's stupid parade. I'm the girl that all the guys hate. I'm what they call the cock-blocker, I'm "no fun," I need to "lighten up," blah blah blah. I just know the game these players are playing and I just don't play. That's all. I would have cut through all his bullshit and told him to shut up with the excuses and come up with the money. Right now. Then I would have talked to his boss (a bar owner in Roppongi who cheats on his beautiful but stupid wife constantly) and asked for an advance on his pay. I would have ripped his balls out for a few hours until I got the money. If there still wasn't any money after I was through with him, then I'd walk away and give up. And I'd tell D to do everyone a favor and never talk to his sorry ass again. And to never set foot in that hole-in-the-wall bar again. While she's at it, she can just stay away from Roppongi too.

Besides, I lent her enough money for the abortion already.

This may sound bad, but maybe being forced into an abortion is a rite of passage for girls. I might have never grown up if I didn't get mine. And hopefully, D will grow up after hers.

Also hopefully, I won't have to hear about these idiots ever again in my life.

My Take on Parenting - COLD SEASON SUCKS

We're on our 2nd round of colds in a month. My 6 year old is complaining about a stuffy nose and sore throat. My 3 year old is stuffy and cranky and is telling me he just doesn't feel well. And my 1 year old who cannot express her discomfort with words is crying to let me know how she feels. I, of course, cannot complain about my own miserable state. I could, but it is a useless waste of words and energy for my complaints fall on deaf ears.

What do I do with 3 sick kids while I feel like crap myself? I just keep going, I have no choice. I long to take a nice long bath and get into some comfy pj's and get into my cozy warm bed and just sleep off this cold, but that will not happen so I push on and try to not exert myself too much by leaving my housework and laundry to accumulate in piles around the house. As I wander around the house in a congested head daze with sippy cups, droppers of tylenol, boxes of tissue and herbal teas I feel like this will never end. It is, in my opinion, one of the hardest parts of being a parent. What do I do for them? For me?

Drugging my kids isn't the answer. Here is an article from injuryboard.com http://www.injuryboard.com/national-news/no-cough-and-cold-meds-for-kids-under-four.aspx?googleid=249038 The FDA is saying certain types of cold medicines shouldn't be given to childen 4 and under BUT these cold medicines can be very dangerous for young children over 4 and they are ineffective for children under 12.

We will get through this. The things that work for us are soup, tea, vaporizers, warm baths and lots of hugs and love.

Here's a recipe for a nice herbal tea for kids:

Bring 2 cups water to boil, remove from heat and add:

1 tsp. cammomile

1 tsp. wild cherry bark

1 tsp. fennel

1 tsp. peppermint

1 cinnamon stick

Let steep for about 5 minutes and then add about 1 tsp. honey.

Other tips:

For sore throats: Coat a spoon with honey and let your child suck on it like a lollipop.

Put salt water is spray bottle and use for oral spray in toddlers (who don't know how to gargle).

Throughout history various cultures have used hypnosis as a way to help or alleviate human suffering of the mind and body. More than 4000 years ago the founder of Chinese medicine , Wang Tai is described as utilising words as tools of healing and translations of hieroglyphics from Egyptian tombs record early forms of hypnosis being used by the Pharohs. The earliest record of hypnosis being used is from the Enbers Papyrus, which explains in detail how hypnosis is used in Egyptian medicine well before 1552 B.C. The hieroglyphics describes how the physician would place his hand on the head of the patient and then proclaiming to have supernatural powers would utter verbal phrases and expressions which would result in healings and cures on a mental and physical level. Throughout the ages from King Pyrrhus of Egypt, The Emperor Vespasian , Frances I of France to Charles X all practiced forms of hypnosis in to induce physical healing on some level.

In Greek history, it is also quoted that Hippocrates, The famous Greek physician said " the affliction suffered by the body, the soul sees quite well with the eyes shut".

In the Bible

Many scholars believe that the first recorded used of hypnosis is in the Bible, written in Genesis 2 v.21 - 22: "So the Lord caused a great sleep to fall upon man, and whilst he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh"
Here it is written that God used maybe some form of hypnosis as an anaesthetic to ensure that Adam felt no pain during the time God removed his rib. Furthermore, in the Book of Acts there is a reference to an apostle gazing in to the eyes of a person and was healing them. " This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who when he had fixed his gaze upon him, and had seen that he had faith to be made well, said with a loud voice, 'Stand upright on your feet' and he leaped up and began to walk" ( Acts 14 v.9-10.)

Additionally, others do now believe that the sleep of Saul ( 1 Samuel 26 v.12 ) and Job ( Job 4 v.13 and 33v.15 )
was like that of hypnotic trances. Fewer also are of the opinion that Jesus induced types of trances in the various people he healed during his ministry which is a highly contentious and debatable even today.

Early uses of hypnosis

Even if nowadays people believe they know all about hypnosis, they actually know very little. Of course, we have all seen movies where the bad guy uses this ancient technique in order to manipulate some other guys. However, hypnosis is not all about transforming people into mere puppets. As I have said, hypnosis dates back to the early ages of man, when he realized the benefits of influencing other people. Of course, I am not referring only to manipulation, but also to the curative side of hypnosis.

The most famous people that used to use hypnosis in such a way where the magicians of times gone by – as we would call them nowadays. The shamans and the ephors were the keepers of this art (they were called shamans in by early eastern civilizations, such as the Hindus, and they were called ephors by the Greeks). Their belief was that the human body is actually a form of prison for the soul (in Greece, for example, the soul was called psyche, hence the word psychology). Therefore, the body was believed to be a temporary house for the soul.

What can we do with this house – seems the most natural question for these ancient people to ask. They believed that the body could become stuck and the body would become older, and so on. Even so, they thought that the soul did not change. Even more, the soul has the ability to change this body – or this house. That is so difficult, since our ability to communicate with our soul has diminished very much. The so-called magicians where highly respected in those times because it was thought that they managed to communicate with their souls. In addition, they did it so well, that they were actually capable of leaving their bodies and wander across the universe. They were respected because they were able to change their “houses”. They never got sick; they lived a healthy and long life.

These magicians were considered medicine men. Through hypnosis, they were able to communicate with other people’s souls and, thus, they were able to help them change their “temporary houses”, make them better looking, make them more resistant to the passing of time. Of course, in those days, there were not as many known illnesses as there are today,nevertheless, these shamans and ephors were supposedly able to cure anyone who came for their help, using hypnosis. Their methods were rather primitive – they used herbs and incantations in order to induce the hypnosis trance – and they believed that were doing a very good job.

Nowadays we are more aware of what hypnosis is and what effects it can have on a person's subsconscious. Fortunately, we still can use this ancient technique in a more advanced and appropriate way in order to make ourselves feel better – both spiritually and physically. The technique has improved over the time, it has been there for us to use ever since the so-called magicians. In addition, since there is no other way to treat some of the most terrifying illnesses, we simply must believe that our souls are able to change our bodies.

After hours of debate, speeches, arguments and even tears, abortion has been decriminalised by the Victorian parliament.

At 10.30pm (AEDT), an historic third and final vote in the Legislative Council on legislation that will decriminalise abortions up to 24 weeks gestation took place.

The vote in the upper house was expected to be tight, but in the end, the bill passed easily, unamended, by 23 votes to 17.

Twenty-five amendments to the bill were proposed - all were voted down in nine-hour long debate.

It wasn't an easy passage - there were three days and three nights of debate - and two MPs spoke at length.

Liberal MP Bernie Finn's speech lasted nearly six hours, while Democratic Labor Party MP Peter Kavanagh spoke against the bill for more than three hours.

Earlier in the day, the second reading passed by the same margin, and there were loud outbursts from pro-life protesters in the public gallery.

MPs were told they had blood on their hands and would suffer "retribution" as a result of their decision to vote for the contentious legislation.

But when the final vote was cast and the bill's fate cemented, there was silence.

The public gallery, packed mostly with pro-choice campaigners and supporters of the bill, sat quietly.

Some women clapped silently, tears running down their faces, while others grinned and hugged each other.

Clearly emotional, Women's Affairs Minister Maxine Morand, who sponsored the bill, received applause and hugs from supporters after the vote.

Holding back tears, Ms Morand told reporters it was an historic moment in time.

"It would be hard to find a bill that has been debated as long as this in the Victorian parliament," she said.

"For 40 years women have had to face uncertainty around abortion services, they now have clarity and certainty, for women and their practitioners in Victoria. And that is undeniably incredibly important.

"I believe we have the most modern legislation, we will have a stand alone act that regulates abortion, and that will be unique in Australia."

Dr Jo Wainer, who has been a long time pro-choice campaigner said memories of women dying of backyard abortions could now truly be a thing of the past.

"Today the parliament has taken this huge decision and had this courage ... and they've done it. It's been a huge achievement," she told a crowd of about 50 women at parliament after the vote.

Earlier today, pro-life advocates spoke of their disappointment at the bill's passage.

Pro-Life Victoria president Denise Cameron said the fight to stop abortion will not stop.

"This debate is by no means over...and I think in the cold light of day when the politicians leave the rarefied atmosphere of parliament's house, they will wake up to what they've actually done," she told reporters.

During the debate, every upper house member who voted for the legislation received an abusive email from an opponent of the bill.

"You have just condemned untold numbers of unborn Victorians to death," the email, seen by AAP, said.

"Their blood is on your hands ... you are, each and everyone of you, a disgrace to humanity."

The legislation will now go back with a message to the lower house, informing MPs that the bill has passed, before it officially becomes law in Victoria.

Is this a good or a bad thing? I have never had to consider this in my life, when I fell pregnant with Callum there was never even a split seonds doubt. Whether I did it with support or not I wasn't going to kill my child. I support abortion in extreme circumstances, rape cases where the victim may have fallen pregnant. It is in her best interest to abort the pregnancy early to save her from more trauma, in my opinion.
However I do NOT support abortion in the cases where the female in question is just promiscuous. It might put a dampener on her ways if she for once has to deal with the consciquences, and by this I dont mean she has to raise a child she doesnt want. Adoption is a viable option. A very good friend of mine had fallen pregnant very young, and had kept it hidden from her parents until the last month. She decided herself that she was unable to care for the infant and gave him up for adoption. She gave an amazing gift to a family who are unable to conceieve on their own.
On the other hand though, Bryce was friends with a girl, who at about the same age had a child whom she kept. She raised him as her own, never finished high school and now works at a gas station (Not that, that is a bad job, I just think she had more potential.) She has also had 7 abortions since then. Seven abortions, seven babies, seven different potential fathers. It is a waste of 7 little lives.
Since having Callum my views on abortion have strengthened. Now knowing exactly what a child can bring into your life I would never advise anyone to abort.
I am PRO-LIFE.

After tears, frustration, harsh words, kind words, giddy laughter and deep depression, Dancer decided to go to NYC as planned, to finish out her "vacation" -- even though it hasnt really been much of one so far. M-girl went with her. My twin sister dropped them off at the airport this morning. D was all in a pissed off mood because her heart-burn and general nausea has returned, which means she's probably still with-baby. She's been snapping at poor M-girl, who has to take her mood swings even though she's not even the one who made her pregnant.

She promised that going to a clinic will be the first thing she does when she gets to NYC. Really. First of all, her nausea is very bad, and I've been around a lot of pregnant people. Second of all, you shouldn't be bleeding like that. I did my best to get her back to Tokyo asap, but it just ended up being more of a hassle. I also thought it was a good idea to tell her mother and get her advise. Dancer said her mother would slap her across the face and then proceed to kick her ass, but she was willing to do it. When she picked up the phone, M-girl got all nervous and started standing up and sitting down and generally not knowing what to do with herself. At one point she even hit me like she was swatting a fly before leaping into the kitchen. Then Dancer started getting really annoyed, like "why are you hitting people? what's wrong with you?" It was kind of a mess. She ended up not calling her mother.

She totally is pregnant with a daughter. Daughters make you exhausted, sick, fat, and beat. Sons make you glow and make you beautiful. At least that's the general trend that I've noticed.

Building a small army

I miss her. Im so in love with her, I never even knew her. Moragan Hope. Even her name, I just love it. How strange, how I could be so in love with someone I never really knew. Yet, somehow, in some strange mother/baby connection...I know her. How can this be? And why does it seem to stun me every time, as if it were the first. Moragan is my 4th child, 2nd daughter. It makes me so sad that none of them are here with me, but Im happy for them to be in heaven too, all together, hanging out, laughing at me being so silly. I suppose Im building a small army in heaven.

I always imagine I will get there and the gates will open, and these children will come running up to me yelling, "Mommmyyy!!" the way excited children might do when youve come home after a really long day. Then I wonder, how old are children in heaven? What do they look like? Will they still be my babies, or will they be adults? I cant even wrap my mind around what it might be like. I guess all I can really do is wait...
