All AT&T iPhone 3G Stock Diverted to Pre-Pay Customers

While most of the attention has been on iPhone 3G stock at Apple Stores (rightfully so, since Apple is hoarding most of them) anyone not in driving distance of an Apple Store has to get theirs in AT&T land. So here's the sorta good news, if you're patient: If you do AT&T's direct fulfillment deal—pay for it in full, then they call you to pick it up when it arrives—you'll get your phone in about two weeks on average, guaranteed. And the bad news:

All the phones are going to the direct fulfillment program, so don't expect to just walk into a store and buy one. They're not getting them, and won't, until the shortage is over:

We hope to begin re-stocking our stores as soon as we can, but first priority goes to those customers who purchased through direct fulfillment.

Our advice? If you've gotta have one NOW, take Friday off, drive to an Apple Store before it opens, and make an urban camping trip out of it—bring beef jerky, a fishing pole (to fend off panhandlers) and guitar to sing Kumbaya, which, with any luck, will drive people out of line. [AT&T]

Mossberg gives MobileMe a dreaded "can't recommend"

Walt Mossberg, who often borders on fanboy in his reviews on Apple's products, gave a dreaded thumbs down to Apple's MobileMe service.  MobileMe, which has had un-Apple-like hiccups and false starts has put a dent in Apple's brand veneer.  Honestly, we'd like to see Apple get some help from Google in this area....it obviously isn't Apple's stong point.

At $449, MyAccountsToGo Dynamics GP and MyAccountsToGo SAP BusinessOne are the most expensive iPhone Apps available as of right now. It's under the Finance category and is designed for sales, marketing and finance people to access their transactions, statements, and other corporate terms that we have no clue about. Since the most we know about "business" is "business time", we can't say whether or not the $449 is worth the cash, but we do know that you should buy both apps and just make it an even $898. There's a free version if you want to know what the excitement's all about. Just don't accidentally buy the paid version.

Tracker Checks Apple Store iPhone 3G Stock Every 15 Minutes

While Apple's website updates its Apple Store iPhone 3G stock count every night after 9PM, the guys running the iPhone 3G availability tracker at Top Muffin say the data is actually updated throughout the day. So it hits the feed every 15 minutes, theoretically providing the most up-to-date stock count around. Or you could just, you know, call the store and have a real live person tell you to bring some sunscreen, an umbrella and some s'mores since a wave of diarrhea cut the line down to a mere 7 hours. Now, try not to laugh, but I just got my first Digital Camera. Yeah, I know that I am sooooo behind the times, but what can I say. I'm a Caveman, the was of your world are so strange to me. Anyway, I'm cutting my teeth with a Kodak ZD710. I guess if I get the hang of it my next buy might be an Olympus E-410. Just so you know, I'm not leaving film behind. My Olympus Infinity Super Zoom 300 is always with me, and I just got a new Flash for my trusty Canon T50, so I'll still be at the camera shop buying film rolls, too. Well, here's my bite of the Apple.

Any sane person knows that the Mac vs. PC ads are filled with misinformation, half-truths (half-lies?), and they contain only a small smattering of truth, but the fact that they have now spread their lies to the Apple 3G Iphone disgusts me!  While I will happily debate the misinformation in the Mac vs PC ads with anyone (I really hate Apple and this is my main reason why...) but I think that eventually someone has to take a stand against thier misleading (at best) ads for the new Iphone.

Let me get this out of the way:  the Iphone is a great smartphone.  I think that it is currently one of the top two best smartphones out there.  I think that the Raphael will kick its ass...but that is another matter altogether

So what has me so riled?  Apple concludes its commercial with the line that it costs half as much.  Why does this get me so upset you wonder?  The iphone is available for $199 vs. the originals $399 right?  It sure is, but this is TYPICAL Apple marketing.  They lie to you (a half-truth is STILL a lie!) by failing to mention that they are taking a much more standard approach to the cellphone business.  They are subsidizing the phone, while jacking up the rates for the plans.  Imagine that I am the only car dealership around and I sell the only tires in the area.  I offer to sell you the newest model of the exact car that you are driving for $5000.  Shocked, you jump onboard without realizing that every month I will be charging you $1000 for tires.  You signed a contract for 2 years, so you are stuck paying.  Does your car still cost half as much?  Is it still a crazy deal?

I didn't think so.  (I know that is the WORST analogy ever, but it is 4AM, I have a headache from hell, and I can't sleep).  The bottom line is that the new iphone costs AT A MINIMUM $160 more than the original.  Apple once again misleads the nation and they get away with it.  When will the d-bag media enthusiasts hold them accountable?  Will they ever stop drinking the Apple kool-aid?  Where is the outrage America?  WTF?

ATTN Macheads:  This isn't a slam on the phone itself.  It is a great piece of hardware as most Mac hardware is.  The point of this is the misleading marketing that outright LIES to the public.

I was one of the nutballs that got up early--3 am to be exact--to go wait in line for the iPhone 3G. I never did get the first iPhone mainly because of price. When it started at $600, I wanted the iPhone but cringed at the price. Then the $200 price drop came several months later. Then I began to really consider getting the iPhone. It was still a hefty price but well worth it. Now at last, this iPhone 3G comes along $200 less than before. That was it. I had to get one.

Now that I've had the iPhone for about a week and a half, I have been both happy and very disappointed with Apple. The 3rd party apps are great and all, but everything is so buggy. And since none of the 3rd party apps are in memory when they're not running, I know the problem is with Apple.

Don't get me wrong. I love Apple, and rarely do any of their products suffer this badly, but I'm not going to praise Apple just because they put an Apple logo on it.

Therefore, for those of you who do have the original iPhone with 1.x software on it, I highly recommend you wait until the bugs are worked out of the 2.0 software. As for upgrading to the 3G, there aren't that many hardware differences: mainly just 3G and GPS. 3G is not available in most areas in the US and location-based services can also be done on the original iphone--just not as precise.

I have had an iPhone for over a year now and I must say that it is a great device. Today I’m posting some tips (in no particular order) of things that I have found useful and helpful. Also, I’m (trying) to post this article using the new WordPress application that is now available in the iTunes store (having some parse issues with it though).

Note that some of these tips might not work in the older version (1.x) of the iPhone software.

Let the tips/tricks begin:

1. Scroll to Top of Page - if you tap once on the top status bar, where the date and batter are, you will scroll to the top of whatever page you are on. This works in all apps.
2. Domain Resolution - in Safari, if the site you want to visit is a .com domain, just type the name in without the .com (e.g., “hightechdad” will resolve to “hightechdad.com”)
3. Domain Suffixes - now with the 2.0 software, if you are typing a domain that is not a .com, you can press and hold that .com button and get other options like .net or .org
4. Quick Delete - the bulk delete feature is great but did you know that if you swipe left or right on an email message in the view mode, a red delete button will appear in-line?
5. Fast Forward/Rewind in Music & Video - pressing and holding the forward or rewind buttons will go forward or backward in your music or video
6. Press & Hold for Alternate Characters - if you want to insert a different character, like to type España, with the tilda, just hold the appropriate character and slide/release to select it.
7. Soft Reset - press and hold the Home and Power buttons at the same time for a few seconds and your iPhone will reboot. FYI, you should do this probably once a day. It helps keep your iPhone running a bit quicker, I find.
8. Click & Hold URLs - in Safari, if you press and hold a link, you will see the URL and the site name.
9. Take a Screenshot - if you want to take a screen capture, press and hold the home button and quickly press and release the power button. Your screen should flash white briefly and the image will be stored in your photo library.
10. Parental Controls - under General settings, you can set some parental controls for Lyrics, YouTube, App Store, Safari and others.

Bonus: In the 2.0 firmware, you can press and hold images in Safari or Mail to save images to your photo library.

Rumor: MacBook touch Coming in October

Those clamoring for an Apple tablet may finally get what you've been waiting for. According to a MacDailyNews source who leaked wireless iTunes a week before its official announcement, we can expect a sort of "MacBook touch" in October. And the source wasn't light on the details, either:

Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.In all honesty, we may have passed this story up, but we've heard vague reports from reliable sources that Quanta is busy building a touch product for Apple. When I bought my Macbook Pro, I wasn't expected to purchase another Mac so soon.  Well, it's just that good.  Seriously.

So, I ordered the iMac and then I realized that I don't have the family license pack for iWork, and I just bought iWork 3 months ago.  I google around and search the Apple site, but can't find any option to upgrade from the single license to the family pack.  A quick phone call to Apple's customer service department got me a discount on a purchase for iWork.  It's a bit more expensive than just the price difference, but they took care of me and that is really fantastic.  I also threw in the mini-DVI to DVI-D adapter so I can run dual-head.

My wild guess is a multi-touch enabled portable Macbook ((or maybe even a smaller stand-alone tablet / iPad expanding upo the iPod touch platform)), ie. Macbooks with detachable or flip-around screens to enable either normal keyboard or multi-touch/table use)). That would also help explain in part why there are no big new ((user visible)) feature additions to OS X 10.6

Every company should understand that Windows doesn't always have to be your first choice. Many business-related companies jump head first into Windows XP or Vista (without floaties) and spend thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars on security updates, breeches, lost personal information, and so much more.

I just wish they would realize that Macs are the way to go!

"I can do anything you can do, better" should be their real slogan, aimed towards Microsoft. I really enjoy not having to buy spyware or adware protection, and still feeling 100% secure. I know my words aren't being traced and my personal information is still remaining personal.

And people are always like, "Windows is so much better" blah blah blah. And I will listen to their opinion if they have used OS X Leopard for at least a week and still don't enjoy it. But if you've never used a Mac, or if the last time you used it was 5-15 years ago, then I have no regard for you opinion at all.

I can see where Windows is more expandable and better suited for a power gamer, but with the new line of Intel Macs, that is becoming less and less of a problem.

Macs just work.

I've never gotten an error like "Kerenel dx0948902498: unexecutable command in line 2487457." The closest thing I've seen on a mac is "_____ encountered a problem. Ignore/Report/Relaunch" How difficult eh?

After beginning a task, life may get in the way while you are completing it.  The challenges you face may not be your fault, but you must deal with them anyway.  When you are faced with a problem while handling business, you should evaluate the situation and map out a plan to complete your task in spite of your obstacles.

 Build your ideas, concepts, and goals as a body.  Make sure you have the feet-this is the foundation, the legs-this how you will walk out your plan, a torso-this encompasses your entire system (how you operate), arms-what you will use to reach your goal, hands-how you will touch it (manifest the reality you want for yourself), and a head-your guidance on the journey towards your dream.  When you build your goals and dreams based on this philosophy your ideas and concepts enter the world complete.

I have work through a LOT of issues with a LOT of people and there is a single commonality that transcends color, gender, and income and that commonality is that EVERYONE has a basic desire to be a better person.

Once you feel that you can do something, DO IT!!!!!  Because you can.

Attack your dream like a roach on the wall when company is over! 

See your vision all the way to its completion and don’t doubt yourself!  Not even a little bit.

So the next time you are in the midst of achieving your goals be it professional or personal and some unmotivated, misguided hater tells you that you are wasting your time.  Tell them that they are wasting their mind!
