Another Connie Willis book. The first chapter is great! She writes some of the best books I've ever read.
Ages 9+ A 12 year old girl, child of fairy tale legend Rapunzel, must conquer the overgrown tangle of forest known as the Wild after it escapes from its hiding place under her bed. In the Wild, she must avoid fairy tale endings in order to save her mother and other friends. Fun and entertaining! I look forward to picking up the sequel.
A new spin on the Alice In Wonderland universe. A novel for teens that might just be interesting enough for adults.
Ages 11+ (little to no language - they start on "b -" and it becomes "witch", some adult suspicion of "messing around" that's only a decoy for supernaturalnanigans) A one-sitting read about a 15 year old HS freshman who begins seeing ghosts - and is shipped off to a group home with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. But the others in the group home seem to have mysterious powers too. Oooooh, spooky. Touches of Pike and Stine in horror/gore at points, but more psychological, with a Sam & Dean style twist. For fans of Westerfeld's Midnighters or Vaughan's Runaways. First in a series, you'll be crossing you fingers for quick release of the second.
Read 8/18/08 Bleak in the vein of "Feed," fantastically told fable. Vampires and rituals are real, Chris is becoming one. Approached by a celestial being, he is promised that he will remain human if he helps with a ritual to destroy Tch'Mungar, a vampire lord who is trapped between dimensions. But things aren't really that easy. A coming of age story with a real twist.
Read 8/6/08 The last book in the series; one that I never read in high school. Sita travels back in time psychically to stop the threat that comes at the end of the age Kali Yuga, then travels back further to put herself to rest. Interesting conclusion.
