QotW: Life Stories

Whose memoirs would you most like to read? Gabriel Garcia Marquez? I started viviendo para contarla about 5 years ago and still haven't finished. Aside from that, I can't think of anyone I know whose memoirs I'd like to read. Maybe there's someone out there doing something extraordinary whom I don't know about, whose memoirs I'd like to read, but I've never heard of them yet so I can't say...

V8 juice?

So a few months ago I was on a big V8 juice kick... it made me feel healthy. However, Hayden too decided that he wanted to share my drink and likes V8 juice too. Really? What 16 month old kid likes V8 juice? Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy about it, he doesn't seem to like very many vegetables, so this counts for his more balanced diet. We'll see how long this lasts.

Funny books Part I

One of the readers on I Will Dare asked me to list some 'good humor' books. So here’s a list of books that I found funny. I am only covering fiction here, which is hard because I find that not a lot of books are funny, at least not funny on purpose. As for nonfiction if you can’t find the funny in David Sedaris or Sarah Vowell or (as much as it pains me to say it) some of Chuck Klosterman’s st...

Caramel Braised Oxtail Noodle Soup

If you read my post on pistachio caramels, you'll remember that I had some temperature issues that weekend. It was so warm in my air condition-less apartment, that my first batch of caramels started getting all melty and greasy. Definitely not suitable for the public. I was heartbroken, but there was work to be done, so I shoved the rejects into the cupboard to deal with later on. Later on ar...

here i stand.

See, told you I'd be alright in the morning. It's almost half eleven and I couldn't be arsed to get out of bed. I'm having my mid-semester break this whole week, but I won't be having much of a break as I've to attend replacement classes, workshops and rehearsals throughout the week. Told you I was busy. But! In no way am I letting that get in the way of my (almost non-existant) social life, h...

Now you see it, Now you don't

Happy Mother's Day! I had a performance today, so there was no celebrating with my mom. :( Husband, however, got to spend the day with his mother and his family. That would have been fun for me too. :( Did I dream this dessert? The picture is something of a mirage. I remember making it for the occasion, but no proof exists in my mouth or my stomach. It's not often I don't get to sample...

Can you tell me how to get to Route 66?

I spent a few years living in Northern Japan when I was younger. At that time, much of Japan resembled 1950's America. There were 50's style bands, young men in leather jackets doing the twist at the local parks on Sunday afternoons and small mom and pop shops thriving in every small town. Sadly, I returned to an America that was on the verge of being devoured by big box stores. Small regio...
